It is also Christian to give donations to the needy and less fortunate.

Think that should included those in line to vote? Or are you a satanist?

No but they can set up a booth a 150' away from a poll and give water away to anyone that is in need.

Have you ever seen water bottles with custom labels on them? Now, have you ever heard of the election laws prohibiting campaigning within so many feet of a polling place? What if some activist group or PAC not affiliated with a campaign took advantage of being "good citizens" and handed out water bottles to people waiting in line to vote?

ARE YOU PUTTING IT TOGETHER YET?

Don't be so fricking stupid.
The existing statute AND the proposed legislation are linked in a dozen places in this thread, starting on p.2. AGAIN, the proposed legislation is underscored, and all of the remaining text is ALREADY the law:

Emphasis on "NO PERSON SHALL ...." Existing law is NOT limited to prohibiting the actions of persons directly affiliated with a campaign, as has been argued earlier in this thread (and as you seem to be arguing).

The existing statute ALREADY prohibits ANYONE from handing out the water bottle with the custom label that you describe.

AGAIN, what problem is this proposed legislation ADDRESSING that is not ALREADY prohibited?

Is there a rampant problem of little retired church ladies handing out bottles of Ozarka?

Wait, so OP is fake news? They didn't single out water bottles and simply created a buffer zone where you aren't allowed to give a voter anything of value?

This will go unanswered, but it's one hell of a solid question.

Why are there not these same groups of do-gooders out handing out food and drinks to long lines all across the country? Not places like homeless shelter, but merely where you encounter a long, potentially boring arse line?

Could it be there is not really any incentive for the group to do that, because there is nothing to gain from handing some tool a bottle of water and a snack bar while they wait in line at the post office on some random Wednesday in February?

I doubt anyone will change their vote because they got a bottle of water.

But it's a lot easier and more practical to say "no gifts" than it is to parse what items are kosher and what items constitute bribery.

A doctor can't even accept a pen from a pharma rep.

Wut

Please explain what that has to do with PACs and special interest groups using a loophole to hand out custom labeled water bottles in line, when it's illegal to campaign within 150 feet of a polling place (i.e. the whole point of this thread).

because handing out water bottles which may or may not be labeled with a candidate on them isn't equal to actual campaigning

Tell us why someone would want to be handing out bottles of water in a voting line if it has absolutely no effect on the voting.

Please say it is out of the goodness of their dear hearts so everybody can laugh.

Is there a tidal wave of people in Georgia who are attempting to influence voters by handing out free Bubble Up, water bottles, BBQ, and pizza WITHOUT ever mentioning a candidate or party, just HOPING that the voters will somehow intuit what vote it is that they are attempting to solicit?
Stacy Abrams did it in 18.

Gotta agree with the Hog here.

If you are handing out anything with campaign data on it, you are electioneering ...

but you are also ALREADY violating the statute.

I ask for the dozenth time what benefit the proposed language adds.
