I'm more than willing to have a discussion. You know that.

"Magic" isn't a sound hypothesis

No magic offered. Just descriptions of what the First Cause would have to be.

Pope Francis said it so it must be true

So there's scientific eveindece that if there is a God, his powers are limited?

I'm not interested in what the Pope thinks about the Big Bang or evolution. I take issue with his statement that God isn't some kind of magician. The inference is that God's powers would be limited some how by science.
Well, if there is a God, and I believe there is, he would be the creator of all, which includes all sciences and he would also have put in motion all the laws consistent with science.
Thus, God could and would be able to do anything, and anything he did would be in complete harmony with the very laws he inacted.

quote:Or the inference is God has created a universe that follows a set of rules, discoverable by the intelligent beings within that universe. Seems reasonable that God would want us to learn and discover the Universe he created, like we do with our own children.

quote:Exactly. And a magician is an illusionist who tricks us through misdirection; that would be counter to a system of consistent and discoverable rules and processes.
Well, if there is a God, and I believe there is, he would be the creator of all, which includes all sciences and he would also have put in motion all the laws consistent with science.
quote:Exactly. Hence, not a magician tricking us through illusion rather than truth.
Thus, God could and would be able to do anything, and anything he did would be in complete harmony with the very laws he inacted.

I guess my interpretation of his use of the word differs from yours.
