except we really can't. Can we expand military operations? Sure. To some degree.. and not without groveling to the Europeans. But the other objectives - fresh water, carbon capture, oil, gas, rare earth, who is allowed in sovereign waters and airspace... all that comes with ownership.

I mean really....what would owning Greenland actually do for us?
This is the question you should actually focus on, instead of naysaying and starting a thread.

That's why I asked the question. For someone to convince me that Greenland would provide any sort of useful ROI of the insane money we are about to spend on it.
I feel that money is better spent elsewhere.

Yea but when you take away all of the fraud waste and abuse discovered by DOGE we have plenty of money now to bring down the deficit (which he is already doing) and purchase Greenland while having shite tons of money left over to do other things

Why are you ignoring certain posters? You want to pay for a military ramp up in Greenland? Own it.

Ok man surely you know a little more than this right? Although I support the concept of DOGE and wish it went further, it didn't actually do much in the grand scheme of things. Our spending is out of control.
I would vote MAGA for every election if he ran from now until the end of history. But..... I will question things that don't make sense.
And our spending doesn't make sense.

So the $19 billion that has been going to Minnesota will just keep going for another $19 billion? Trump is just going to allow those payments to still get approved?

Yes because it has played such a massive part in the history of world wars......
Now, compare today’s military technology against WW I or WW II technology and give us your thoughts. Hell, compare today’s military tech vs. Shock and Awe.
TIA.

This isn’t some brand-new Trump thing. The U.S. has floated the idea of buying Greenland for generations—most notably in 1946, when Harry Truman’s administration offered Denmark $100 million in gold. Denmark said no.
And the strategic logic is blunt: Greenland is “geography is destiny” for second-strike deterrence. In a worst-case exchange, survivability isn’t just the weapons—it’s early warning, tracking, hardened comms, and Arctic basing/resupply along the shortest approaches between great powers. Greenland sits on that front door.
Side note on minerals: even our big domestic rare-earth source at Mountain Pass in California is mostly light rare earths and doesn’t really give us the full suite that fuels the next wave of high-performance tech—especially the heavier, scarcer ones needed for top-end magnets and defense-grade systems.

I'm not sure what point your are trying to make.... but frick Minnesota and whatever fraudulent shite they have going on there. They don't deserve any federal money.

If we acquired it, we would still have to do that if it's vital for defense...

Amazing the sheer number of people who don't understand the physics of projecting a round globe on a flat surface. Greenland is 1/6th the size of the USA.
So Minneapolis isn’t really three times the size of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi combined?
