Absolutely not. Why would a prayer in the name of the way the truth and the life disgust me?

Any prayer should at least have some basis in the foundation of the country in question in order to be a sincere expression.

Uh Huh... What is your "point" supposed to be??
Why not just answer the point I suggested as relevant?

I think that if we are going to consider this controversial then we should consider them opening with the Christian prayer controversial as well.

If we are going to nitpick things, we could enforce secularism on the government. But then you guys would bitch about that too.

What basis in "secularism" can you point to in the foundation of this country?
Are you against all tradition?

Christ is king over all nations, whether they acknowledge Him as such or not.

No. We need to have Christianity dominate.

Look, you are not going to get rid of religion. Humans have a need for some type of spirituality. That vacuum will always get filled by something.

Christianity is one of the more benign choices.

Islam is poison.

There, I said it.

I'm not against any tradition. I just feel like if we allow them to open with a Christian prayer probably 95% of the time, it is okay to open with other types of prayers the other 5% of the time.

After all, there are a shitload of other religious types in this country besides Christians.

I am not petty enough to say any one person's beliefs on God are more valid than someone else's. This thread reaks of xenophobia, IMO.

I hope to some day lead a Hebrew prayer one day. I miss reading the prayers during Chanukah and Passover since my family stopped gathering for the Jewish holidays.

I agree, I just want to point out that the US has the highest Christian population in the World. Anything but a Christian prayer is just pandering to a minority and pretentious. We have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. We are not only a Christian nation, but the world's largest Christian nation and prayers from our federal government should reflect that.

Why is that??
Seriously..you want to open up every single abstract belief system into an expression of what the country was based on??

Seriously..how would that work??
Jainism too? Don't step on that bug...it offends me!

Foundational principles are simply that..foundational principles.
What is not understood about this?

The number of people identifying as Christians is on the decline in the US bigly. It's down to 65% from 85% in 1990.

35% of the population is a considerable number of people who don't see things the way you do. It's like, 114,000,000 people.

You guys are free to feel however you want, but shoving your beliefs down other people's throats is what is driving people away from your church. Just a heads up.

Weird flex.

How does this manifest itself in your mind??
What are the everyday examples that you base that impression on??
Serious question.

Be that it may be. The United States is still majority Christian and the House of Representatives is the people's house. And if we are being honest with ourselves about who we are as Americans, Then the prayers would be Christians prayers. 243 million > 114 million
