Mom, (my sister)
I get that she's your sister, but it sounds like she Is the reason that the kids are are liberals in the 1st place. Maybe cut your losses and pretend to enjoy those few holidays you have to be around them

Who encouraged him to go to film school instead of the correct advice to be an engineer, accountant, or a learn a trade? Probably someone that told him he has such talent after he made a few amateur movies on his iphone. Should have been real with the kid.
Yep. You can pursue a dream in art/film/music while also getting a real degree you can use if that dream doesn't pan out. By all means, pursue your hobby that you're talented at. Maybe you'll get lucky and get discovered and can make a career out of it, but, if it doesn't, and you don't have a backup plan, you are screwed.

While ya'll have a pleasant lunch tomorrow, think of us who are having to deal with societies lunacy first hand.
I thought when I retired I was done with uncomfortable lunches.
Hey OP, give us an update on how lunch went.

One of my kids is a graphic artist, heavily involved in the film industry. While in high school he attended several summer “movie camps”. They always had a parents day where you could talk to people in the industry, talent agents, producers, various professional artists from music and film. They all had the same advice, unless you can get into NYU film school, Juilliard , or want to be a music teacher , don’t waste your money on, music, theater, and film degrees. Get a degree in something practical that has earning potential, and pursue your passion in your extra time with private acting/ voice lessons and if possible meet elective requirements for your degree with those type courses.

Looks like we can scratch NYU film school from that list

I don't know about that. Boston U has a very well respected film school with many successful grads.

Talk to him about his art - film making. Tell him that he has GOT to make a big splash soon because Time is not his friend. Engage him and get him completely absorbed in talking about film ideas for a while.
Then, when you get a chance to talk, mention that YOU have got an idea for a film. When he asks you to tell him about it, hit him square in the face with a pie, and tell him that your idea is a comedy involving film makers being hit in the face with pies.
He'll appreciate the Irony.

I hope you sat directly in front of him and ordered the biggest steak cooked rare and made moaning sounds with every bite. Then tell him it's your contribution to cut down on cow farts in the atmosphere.

Give him something to think about.
Call him a broke loser with no prospects who is an embarrassment to the family.
