I told OP to donate to a Christian charity and to pray for the people in that region.

I already do. However, he´s talking specifically about Syria, which under this guy, until the past five years or so, were safe.

Full disclosure. This is what I'm most concerned about if we remove Assad. At least under Assad the ancient Syrian Christians can live. Not so much under the jihadist regime that would move into the Assad vacuum.

Full disclosure: if you're a Christian you realize that we're all God's children, even those that denounce Him, so, as a Christian, you should be concerned for all Syrians.

We can't. A brutal dictator is what Muslims need and deserve. Assad, Saddam, and Gaddafi are a good thing for the Middle East. Chemical weapons should be encouraged, but I guess we prefer planes being flown into buildings.

Easiest way to keep them alive is to get them to convert to Islam.

This is a myth. They weren't being actively targeted but they definitely were not being protected. If Christians in Syria want protection they need to move into SDF controlled territory.

I referenced this earlier but it bears repeating.

quote:

America, in the assembly of nations, since her admission among them, has invariably, though often fruitlessly, held forth to them the hand of honest friendship, of equal freedom, of generous reciprocity. She has uniformly spoken among them, though often to heedless and often to disdainful ears, the language of equal liberty, of equal justice, and of equal rights. She has, in the lapse of nearly half a century, without a single exception, respected the independence of other nations while asserting and maintaining her own. She has abstained from interference in the concerns of others, even when conflict has been for principles to which she clings, as to the last vital drop that visits the heart. She has seen that probably for centuries to come, all the contests of that Aceldama the European world, will be contests of inveterate power, and emerging right. Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example. She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom. The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force.... She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit...

John Quincy Adams on the role of America and the results of foreign entanglements.

Note that once you begin beating the drum of protecting Christians in Syria where do you draw the line?

It's not about protecting Christians, it's about protecting the defenseless.

So what about the defenseless people of Tibet? Is it time to go to war with China?

"Atrocities" in Tibet are debatable, no one condones the use of poisonous gas.

Look, you can try to spin it all you want, no one else dropped a weapon that indiscriminately killed dozens of people. When that happens, and you have the ability to stop it, you must act.

Also using the UN (which is desparate to appease China) to disprove the Tibet atrocities is ridiculous. Just like the atrocities in the ME.

If you want to quote John Quincy Adams, why not throw in his thoughts on Islam?

quote:

"In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar [i.e., Muhammad], the Egyptian, [.....] Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST. TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.... Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. The war is yet flagrant ... While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men." (emphasis added)
