They did lie, but I don't think it was a malicious lie. It was more of a "the tooth fairy exists" type of lie. They are just trying to keep morale up.
This is how I know they’re not serious. They treat the American people like children instead of having a frank grownup discussion of options. Most of us handle difficulties everyday, it’s part of life. Our “leaders” want us infantilzed.

The vaccine is about as effective as taking Bayer aspirin to prevent a heart attack

It's dumb...I know.. but, I'm starting to wonder if there even is a vaccine.
Before the vaccine, most people who caught covid19 had either mild symptoms or they were asymptomatic. Now, it's attributed to the vaccine, whenever people are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.

They weren’t expecting such a resistance to masks and vaccines… they figured we’d be more like the rest of the developed world which united to take proactive measures.
There is resistance because vaccines and masks do not prevent transmission.
If these things work, why are they not working? Highly vaccinated areas are getting walloped right now.

My bad I read your quote wrong

How did we get back to this?
A hardcore minority of our population mistakenly refuses to do the safest, most effective thing to mitigate the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the virus continues to spread and mutate across the world.
One of these mutations has a much higher ability to infect people, and much shorter incubation period.
Put that together, and welcome to January 2022 being crappy in a whole host of ways.

Why would they get MAB if they aren’t sick?

Why would they waste time in a MAB clinic when vaccine clinics are far more plentiful, and don't require active infection first?

Because it takes 20 MAB administrations to reduce one hospitalization versus several thousand vaccinations.

This is absolutely true. My wife (no pics) is a teacher at the local middle school, and her principal gets tested weekly, with the hope of a positive result, so he can stay home for two weeks.
He works less than 200 days a year, as it is. He clearly needs the time off.
