Thats convenient.
But not true. Should all non english be banned? Or is this just another "get off my lawn" thread..

People complain to you because you can’t understand them when they don’t speak clear English.
Sorry you get treated poorly by people that have poor enunciation.

Theres not a damn thing wrong with being proud of your heritage. Including us Southern White Folk. Nothing wrong with speaking your language or celebrating where you came from.
But you need to assimilate and to be here you MUST SPEAK ENGLISH. If I were in Vietnam for instance i'd be expected to speak the language and respect the customs. As I should.

I wouldn’t move to Mexico, refuse to learn Spanish and then complain when I couldn’t communicate with most people.
I understand many of them here are not mentally capable of learning English but still.
just bc someone's speaking spanish doesn't mean they don't speak english
además, en mi opinión, si uno no puede al menos conversar en español, es perezoso y se está haciendo un flaco favor.

Huge difference between being proud and being insecure, which this thread highlights.
Its insecurity.

Be that as it may, if you live here, respect the culture assimilate and speak the language. We would all be expected to do so if we were somewhere else.

I fail to see how this actually affects me.

Agree. Feel like I’m living in Central America because of all of the Hispanic and restaurants that have popped up. If I wanted that, I’d have moved there.

I don't care if it does or does not. I merely stated how I feel on the subject. I should not have to speak Spanish here. Now if I went to Mexico, different story.

be as smooth brained xenophobic as you want, but i will not stand by and watch criticism of taco trucks and latin restaurants!

I totally agree. The first requirement for a visa, green card, or becoming a legal person in America should be that one has an acceptable concept of the English language.
Why should a nation whose language is English have to defer to any other language??? There's no logical or reasonable answer to that question.

Geez... your dishonesty and stupidity is amazing. With each new post you continue to demonstrate both.

Whatever this language might be, you need an interpreter.

I'm sure that's exactly how the native americans thought about hearing all the english speaking people in their country
Posted on 12/1/25 at 2:49 pm to Powerman
Most "Spanish only" speakers I've run into understand and can speak English pretty good, if you are cool with them. Especially Mexicans since most of them have spent a lifetime in Northern Mexico getting bombarded with American radio and television.
There's a station in Brownsville in particular that at night blasts into Monterrey....or used to. Definitely still reached Reynosa.
