Unsurprisingly, your reading comprehension is shite.

This was the idea that I said wasn't hard to grasp:

quote:

Yes, and you can have an idea of how something might have occurred without having faith that it did in fact occur in that manner.

It was literally the sentence that preceded the "it isn't that hard" comment.

Let's have some fun with this.

Yes, there is no God.

Glad we agree there's no faith necessary to the atheist's stance.

I didn't assume you were proud of that particular statement and instead were speaking more broadly.

I apologize for the credit. Yes, your opinion is easy to understand. Obviously.

This conversation is about what atheists believe and if they have faith, not what can be proven.

I was just having fun.

I do think there could be an argument made for there being no God, but it would depend upon how you define God. So we'd need to start there.

What if you merely lack a belief in any gods, like Hitchens
Hitchens specifically spoke to that. I laid out his contentions.

Do you disagree with it? Do you think you *must* have faith that an occurrence happened in order to theorize that it may have happened?

Just take the L and agree with me that atheism doesn't require faith.

As did the others I quoted.

Do you find it odd that you're ascribing a belief "that there is no God" to atheism when virtually all of the accepted famous atheists simply "lack a belief in God"?

Kinda strawmannie, huh?

of course. Likewise, there can be an argument made for there being a God. Statements that there is or is not a God are statements of belief, independent of science.

I don't think you must, I just think that's how it goes with most atheists, especially commoners.

You keep mentioning these brilliant thinkers like the average non-believer is even close to that.

I'll be more clear. A sound and valid argument can be made that there is no God depending on how you define him.

But, again, this conversation seemed to be about what atheists believe and if they have faith, not getting into the nitty-gritty of whether or arguments for/against the existence of God are proven. I have no interest in the latter as they're never productive.

It's simple really. If they identify as atheists, either they contend that atheism is falsifiable, or they are misidentifying as Hitchins chose to do.

Yeah, and you also thought that atheists though that nothing created the universe for no reason...

So you clearly do not have a good read on this situation.

Why isn't there a "or my definition/understanding of atheism is wrong when those most associated with the atheist movement do not fit the criteria I'm laying out" option listed?

I love how you are condescendingly speaking for all atheists.

You don't even realize how much you're proving my general point.

For fun, which religious scholars have you read? Who is your favorite apologist?

See my edit. I think we can keep this going another page or two.

Give me the Christian Hitchens and elucidate their thoughts that you believe are wrong.
