If a bacterium is a football field, a virus is the football.

Any questions?
This is what you call a "false equivalence."
Besides the obvious size differences between bacteria and viruses, there is also research out there showing that there is no statistical difference in infection rates for surgeries with masks vs. without. In fact in one study, the without group had a lower percentage of cases that led to infection.
1991 study
quote:
After 1,537 operations performed with face masks, 73 (4.7%) wound infections were recorded and, after 1,551 operations performed without face masks, 55 (3.5%) infections occurred. This difference was not statistically significant (p> 0.05) and the bacterial species cultured from the wound infections did not differ in any way, which would have supported the fact that the numerical difference was a statistically “missed” difference.
1980 study
quote:
No masks were worn in one operating theatre for 6 months. There was no increase in the incidence of wound infection.
I'm sure there are more out there agreeing and other disagreeing.
