All of that is correct, but Trump in 2016 was the first candidate to really utilize places like Twitter to share his message directly as opposed to through the filter of someone else. Had Trump not done this, very few would have even known what his message was and he likely doesn’t even win the primary.

This may be totally shocking to you, but most people still get their news from traditional entities, be it TV, Twitter profiles of news orgs, etc.
