"Hey Claude, there's nukes heading towards the U.S., please use the 10 million documents we have provided you to try and stop it before we get blasted to the stone age!"

* Thinking....

"I'm sorry, you need to submit a JIRA ticket to Anthropic. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Semafor

quote:

In a previously unreported exchange in early December, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael was outraged by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s answer to a hypothetical question: If the US were under attack – with hypersonic missiles hurtling toward US soil – and Anthropic’s AI models could thwart the missiles, would the company refuse to help its country due to Anthropic’s prohibition on using its tech in conjunction with autonomous weapons?

According to people familiar with the administration, Amodei responded that the Pentagon should, in the midst of the attack, reach out and check with Anthropic. But sources familiar with Anthropic’s view say the AI company offered to make a missile defense carveout for otherwise prohibited weapons.

This is the same guy who crows about how he's creating a new super-intelligence, then complains when China gets access to it, but won't let the US use it?

I don't think Hegseth's description of him is far off.

Right. I don't like the government claiming war necessities without any war that justifies such drastic intervention in private enterprise.

It isn't like the government is an outside third party here interfering, though. They're asking for services to be provided a certain way, anthropic can say yes or no.

Has it been confirmed that the dispute was over autonomous weapons/mass surveillance, or is everyone just taking Anthropic's word for it?

The idea that the military would more or less have to answer to a private company is straight out of cyberpunk books, movies, and games that every self-proclaimed intellectual warns about, yet you look online and it's all about how wonderful Anthropic is for "standing up for freedom" and the like.

The Hill

quote:

He wants nothing more than to try to personally control the US Military and is ok putting our nation’s safety at risk,” Michael continued. “The @DeptofWar will ALWAYS adhere to the law but not bend to whims of any one for-profit tech company.”

Are you being serious?

Yes.

Before you mention some one off task you've used it for, or how you got it to create a web site one time, that's all fine and good.

If it's going to replace all white collar industry, it needs to do more than that, and it's not going to stay cheap forever.

Anthropic and OpenAI need to make money eventually, spending $200 of tokens to do parlor tricks of checking your email or calendar with Openclaw ain't gonna cut it for most people.

Either these tech gurus are full of shite or congress should be hauling in them to explain how this nation functions with millions of jobs being rendered obsolete.

I'm leaving towards #1.

Where are the amazing products being created with only AI? I'm not talking about demos and prototypes.

And a guy who was famous for massively overstaffing at Twitter with nothing to show for it should now be considered the canary in the coal mine for AI?

Come on, now.

Stupid bitch on Nextdoor asked if the closing of the interstate was related to the chaos in Mexico.

I saw one on Facebook saying that it was a false flag because they warned about it ahead of time.

I want to believe that they were trolling.

It's funny, at least once every few weeks I get an AI analysis of a log with an explanation of what the issue MUST be because the AI analysis has those urgent trigger words and pretty icons that the LLMs love to use, and then I have to explain that there's a ton that the AI isn't aware of, so what they think the issue is is wrong.

The younger folks dont have the patience or resolve to go through that stage because AI can surely figure it out eventually after a bunch of prompts

My 12-18 months thought is that there's going to be a ton of crap code out there left from these types, and devs who know what they are doing to clean up.
Pretty sure I heard the 12-18 months line about 12-18 months ago.

The whole "we're resigning from these AI companies because we're scared of the future" bit is cute, too. Totally not because they aren't making enough money to cover costs.

It existed a long time before porn

First time I ever heard it was when a wrestler with a porn gimmick had it as a move, and that was in the late 90s.

It's in common parlance now, but it wasn't before.

Plus who wants to be on the hook for six bucks a pop to cross the bridge? I’ll stick to the South shore, thank you very much

How exactly would that work? Once all the current senior level folks retire, who is going to become the next senior level folks if all entry level is replaced by AI?

That's way too forward thinking for the IT industry.
Don't believe your lying nose, that pile of shite actually smells good!

That was a brain-fried explanation if I ever saw one.

Because none of the other ones are near as pervasive or as overwhelming in modern society.

And you can get thrown out for all of them if the business so chooses.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the moltbook stuff happened right at the same time people are starting to look at AI and say, "what does this really buy us?"

But yes, skynet, iRobot, UBI, blah blah blah...
Anthropic showing us the future of AI (of course, they would never do this, just like Google would never be evil).
