I think Isikoff is pissed he was used by Steele/Fusion/Russia to propogate this nonsense. He is backtracking to save what little is left of his reputation.

It is absolutely depressing a batshit insane conspiracy theory alleging that the sitting President of the United States is secretly a Russian agent, KGB asset or even Putin's right hand man went mainstream in American and global culture and even was peddled by the Justice Department, FBI and British intelligence.
It's one of the craziest and stupidest developments so far in the 21st century.
