It’s a good problem to have. If the potential for additional business is there, wages start to rise as businesses compete for more workers. Over time, people start to see the potential upside to working instead of wasting time and money on liberal arts degrees and ruining their employability with drugs. The economy will adjust over time.

Changing the requirements to cater to people too stubborn to not smoke weed..... sounds a lot like changing a grading scale to cater to people too lazy to study. Weed addiction consumes people who don't have strong will power. A better solution is to stop entitlements for people who can't piss clean and let them either straighten the frick up or starve.

I think he’s saying that if they don’t have gov help to fall back on, they’ll straighten up and do what’s needed to get a job.

I agree with rising wages, but folks would fail piss tests even if the job pays $30/hr.

In my town there is a manufacturing plant that has over 100 openings which start at $15/hr. They’re having a terrible time finding folks who can simply piss clean.

Wages go up until it’s worth it for junkies and pot heads to dry out and go to work, or companies start allowing certain common drugs like pot simply out of desperation

I have a 6-figure job, but I still like to have a rip around the campfire once or twice per year.

However, folks taking an occasional hit isn’t the issue. The issue is folks who are on harder stuff and/or are just too sorry to get their asses to work on time.

To the original point; how many more employable people can we squeeze out of our population?

What % of people regularly smoke, in your estimation? Like once or twice a week I mean.

Yep. I got a job in a union making more for the same position plus benefits. All the people I used to work with were blowing me up trying to get on until they found out they have to pass urinalysis. Crickets.

They literally put being able to waste what little money they have on weed at a higher level of importance than improving their wages and adding the security of insurance and pto

Come up with a test for "high at work" instead of "smoked weed in the last 30 days."

this ^^^^^^

you have no legitimate right to dictate the private choices of an employee when he is off the clock. if you want that right then you should be forced to pay for every hour of every day a person cant exercise simple freedom of choice.

you cant get a second chance and get away with coming to work "buzzed" on alcohol, but if you smoked on your own time, on your days off, where does it stand they should have the right to control that. its no different then telling you you cant drink beer or wine, ever.

These jobs in our town are $15/hr, 401K, insurance, pto, and the management treats the folks well.

That’s a hell of a deal for a baw with a hs education and no discernible skills.

Well sure but that isn’t someone who “smokes weed” either. If you won’t take a job because it interferes with your marijuana usage then you are a “weed smoker”.

That’s true.
If I never saw weed again, I’m not sure it would even register.

That would require testing every day.
That’s a bit cost prohibitive
What if it's an eye scan test, like a thumbprint scan or ID scan to get into a building? Every day, people enter office buildings using some sort of scan test.

They certainly have a right not to hire you and it probably isn’t about what the employer wants but rather what their insurance mandates. It also probably has less to do with the effects of the drug and more to do with the likely overall behavior of someone who regularly breaks the law by obtaining narcotics. In other words: “If you will break the rules for X then you are likely to beak the rules for Y. “

The last time this happened was when Black Americans moved to industrial hubs and made white mans wages in the 1910s-1920s.

It was also the previous height of republican power.

I used to smoke a lot in college but it just makes me paranoid. I rarely drink anymore because I’m worthless the next day. Life if wild enough, I really don’t need drugs. I’m trying to talk Mrs Masters into getting a hotel suite and dropping some MDMA for some freaky nasty sec but she’s pretty lame that way.

But those biometric security measures are simply looking for patterns...no different than a bar code.

Collecting some type of fluid, prepping it, and waiting for the results is a bit more difficult.

Maybe some type of breath test, but most employers don’t want to go to these lengths.
For example, my company drug tests everyone pre-employment, but in 5 years I’ve never known or heard of anyone having a random test.

Testing is usually only done when there’s an accident.
