In city limits in cities with jobs? Absolutely

In Lafayette? Yeah, that’s ridiculous.

These threads always go the same way. Oldheads with their heads buried in the sand and their rose tinted glasses blame the younger generations for being rightfully outrageous at the shite sandwich that we have been dealt.

What a pussy.

Most entry level positions (with degrees) are paying 45k.

Average rent on a one bedroom apartment is $1400 to live in a safe area.

You do the math.
It's almost like you can't always get exactly what you want, precisely when you want it.

Weird.

It's ridiculous in almost all markets.

I do however think the current generation is the only generation in our short history who does blame their life circumstance on economic difficulties.

That's an opinion that I hardly think is supported by facts, but it's your right to it. Part of the problem is I get the impression from you that you think anyone younger than you is a millennial or that only millennials are career age at this point. Maybe I'm wrong.

Time will tell with this. Honestly, we are still in the middle of a lot of this. I think if Covid never happened things would be vastly different right now. The problem with the whole personal accountability and hard work thing (which I honestly agree with you) is that it's an uphill battle against Washington that seems to get more difficult by the day. Believe me I want to take the white pill, but it's a clown show right now.

Don’t you live in Central or something? I don’t think you really have perspective

Eli, your example is bad...these people making $55k a year should not be buying a home, even if interest rates were under 3%...they should be renting an apartment until they can afford the house they want.

This isn’t about “a house they want”. It’s about any house at all.

Nashville has just about gentrified as much as it can.

In 2008, I bought a home about 15 mins from downtown Nashville for $182K. It was a basic 1100sf home over an unfinished basement. This home sold for $515K 2 years ago. $515K for a 60yo, 3br 1.5 bath home with pretty standard finishes.

To say that younger folks just need to try harder is a clear indication that folks don’t fully understand current conditions.

This thread is a fricking shite show. A lot of you have created this straw man of a "typical millennial" in your head that you are arguing against. Not everyone is a blue haired starbucks barista with $120k in student debt that expects to live in a $400k house in downtown Nashville.

By all means, keep doubling down with the hyperbole.

That you believe this is hyperbole tells me that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Wife is 29 and I'm 33. We are concluding that it's just a bad time to buy right now.

We have a very small rental house in a great area of the austin area that costs us 9.7% of our gross income.

If I have to sit here for 2-3 more years then so be it. That 9.7% is only going to get smaller.

Maybe try somewhere that isn’t one of the hottest and most popular places to live in the country. Entitled twats.

It's a messy situation that I'm glad I'm not in. I was watching a video where this guy was saying that perhaps rates of 8%+ might finally help cool things off. Okay so even if prices do come down, you're paying a rate that we haven' seen since...what...the 90's? I wouldn't want that note.

We were actively looking to buy, since 2020, and in hindsight probably should've made a counter on a house we would've stayed in at least 5-10 years, but right now, houses that were once in our budget are valued $175k over our original budget. It's insanity.

Honest question - why do Millennials believe that just because prior generations were able to do the thing, that they should be able to the thing?

I'm a younger Gen X, and I sure don't remember my peers pissing and moaning about our parents being able to buy homes for less.

You aren't entitled to shite. Whoever sold you that lie is who you should take this up with.
