Did a quick google of "Perry rejects Obama" and every single headline is about the handshake lol.

Smart by the media I guess. Pretty compelling headline.

Oh look, Libs talking bad about a Republican

I've never voted for a democrat, not once. I just haven't voted for a republican in a while either. Perry isn't particularly popular with republicans in this state these days, either. He appeals to the lowest common denominator, but that's about it.

I resent what the republican party has become, and the men like Perry who made it that way. You, much like darkhorse, hold such a simplistic view of the world that you cannot fathom a conservative who dislikes the current republican party. It's literally beyond your powers of comprehension.

I can't stand Perry, either. I still say he's been this successful bc Texas has been ok since the recession compared to so many other states. People were scared to change anything.

He has definitely skated by in part due to our relative prosperity. That, and the fact that we still have a pretty large number of "the worst republican is better than the best democrat" types here.

No, I've just seen more than my share of Libs in Mod/Libtarian/whatever clothing on here to know the tree by the fruit it bears and your fruit is certainly leftist.

And I don't even have a strong opinion about Perry either way, it's just funny how the Libs here run down GOP guys and expect anyone to take their comments seriously.

You realize that the majority of libertarians in this country are disillusioned republicans, right?

Can't argue with that.

I am not a Perry fan but I have say, he is handling this illegal invasion pretty good.

BTW, I think this was a smart move to draw in the little community organizer.
Right now, the nation is pretty much pissed off at this invasion of illegals and many know that it lays right square on the back of obama.

BTW, why do some think Perry is trying to play 'politics'? Yeah I know, 2016...blah blah

Has it ever occurred to any of you lefties that Perry is trying to stem the tide of this invasion?

I think that the problem is in your analysis and coming to the wrong conclusion about folks who have beliefs that cover a broad spectrum and can't be pigeonholed as either conservative or liberal. I've voted Lib, Repub, Dem & whatever party Ross Perot was in, in my lifetime. I'm pretty much a non-conformist and wouldn't be caught dead as a member of any political party and I certainly would never donate to a political candidate or party. My money and time goes to a higher class of people - hookers.

Almost everything Perry does is political.

Refusing to meet with the President does nothing to solve the problem. But why would Obama give Perry the time of day after Perry's statement Sunday that he thinks Obama doesn't give a damn about the border or the security of the country? Perry essentially said Obama was either inept or had ulterior motives. So after making that conclusion, why would Obama meet with the dipshit gov who has already made up his mind. Obama is basically saying "frick that moron".

He's saying he's not g going to meet Obama at the airport for a handshake and shaming Obama for ignoring the border issue while here.

I mean, the freaking arrogance of fundraising in Texas while we are being flooded with immigrants without even stopping by the border long enough for a photo opp is outrageous.

THis ^

I dislike Perry in general - but this was well played.

If I were him I would not have posed for a photo-op with pResident dipshit either.

The assessment of Obama as inept or ulterior motives is correct.

Why would Obama request a photo-op with Perry if not for just the image. If Obama was truly upset with what Perry said, then he should not have invited him to shake his hand - especially when the only reason Obama is there is to raise money.

If Obama had been coming to Texas to review the problem and work seriously to fix it, then Perry would have been there to greet him.

But for a welcome to the state to jsut hold out his greedy hands for money? = bullshite on that.

Sounds like Texas is booming in spite of its own governor. Mind blowing that such a thing is possible. Unfortunately many states don't have that luxury.

This whole argument is overplayed and dumb already.

For starters, Perry is a tool. As some have said, he is a perfect example of the pandering, crappy politicians that plague the Republican Party.

That aside, Perry is completely correct in his actions here and, not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, if anyone else would've made this move, it would be portrayed by the media as the smart political play. He has not refused to meet with Obama as you said. He just refused a photo op and removed a card from Obama's deck.

Obama can't say, "I met him at the tarmac and we talked about the situation."

He now has to either meet him or risk possible fallout when he gets called out for not meeting with Perry.

Perry played the situation correctly.

Exactly. And no matter what is done, the media is talking about the border issue.

We would've seen that image for a week straight. Obama going to Texas and offering help to Governor Perry.
