If people want a nice concise version of what Christians believe read the Didache. Formed at the end of the First Century / beginning of second century. Pretty clear that abortion is wrong as well as taking of any life

Regardless of all of the other stuff the pope said, the comments on the death penalty are straight up heretical. Leviticus 24:16. God’s own law practices the death penalty. To say that someone who supports the death penalty is not pro-life, is then attributing that same characteristic to God.
The wage for sin IS DEATH. Christ was sentenced to death because of our sin.
If he misspoke, he should correct himself. He should’ve corrected himself immediately.
He might say that the death penalty should no longer be practiced because the law is fulfilled or some such, but he has not. He said an absolute. In plain English.
This is before even putting babies and criminals in the same basket.

TBH the death penalty is mostly a waste of money at this point. I used to support it but now frick it. Life in solitary.

You don't? Look a little closer. In the Gospels Christ advocated and preached for mercy. Only in Romans 13 does Paul vaguely submit to honoring the state's power of the sword basically saying that the state has a monopoly on power. But show me anywhere else inside the NT wherein Christ endorsed anything akin to the death penalty

I'm not a biblical scholar, but pretty sure the Bible allows for the death penalty.
Jesus never objected to the death penalty on ethical/moral grounds, but actually upheld the teaching of the law over it. He never said that He shouldn't be crucified because the death penalty was immoral, but His particular death was unjust in that He didn't actually deserve it on legal grounds. Quite the opposite, in fact. In John 19, Pilate tells Jesus that he has the authority to set Jesus free or to crucify Him, and instead of saying that he has no authority to crucify, Jesus corrects him by saying his authority is from God. His condemnation of sin against Pilate was not of crucifixion (death penalty application), but of the injustice of killing an innocent man, which is why He said others had the "greater sin" (v. 11).
Jesus also upheld the law in the stoning of the adulterous woman in John 8. He was calling out the injustice of its application in that the woman was "caught" in adultery but the man who was also caught wasn't brought before Jesus, which the mosaic law required both guilty parties to be stoned.
Paul states in Romans 13 that the government "bears the sword" of justice (v. 8), which clearly speaks to the death penalty for bad/illegal behavior. This seems to support his view that justice is the role of the government and that it may even include the death penalty.
In Acts 25, Paul said that if he had done anything deserving of death (speaking of violations of the law), that he would not seek to escape the death penalty (v. 11). He could have said how it was unjust or sinful to put anyone to death, but he didn't. He embraced it as a valid punishment if he deserved it, implying that there are things that do deserve the death penalty.

Guess Jesus received capital punishment for fun. The entirety of the New Testament is about the necessity of the death penalty.
The Law was fulfilled. What law? Please tell me without mentioning death, because I’m merely a “cafeteria Christian” who only sees it through that lens.
