Putin's strategy may be to utilize these military ops as a fulcrum/lever that will compel Ukraine to settle things with Russia at the negotiating table. But, to be honest, I don't understand Putin's thinking at this point.

I didn’t think that Russia would actually invade tbh. I still don’t see the upside. I guess time will tell. At this point though, none of his decisions to this point make a whole lot of sense to me.

France had the best armed and largest military in the world then. It had shitty communications and bad generalship otherwise they would have stopped the Germans to a dead stop

Same reason the Germans sent ill equipped troops to Russia. The Germans underestimated the Russian people’s resolve. Putin made the same mistake. He really believed Ukraine would be under Russian control by now.

I'm almost certain they're using field artillery.

I think the most plausible reason has already been touched on earlier. Limit civilian casualties and limit damage to cities keep the power on and internet on until you go all in coming into a city so that the public sees what is happening and hope they will negotiate to save their lives.
One of the tough things about the shock and awe campaigns is they destroy the cities causing them to return into semi 3rd world countries that become very hard to govern.

Opinion…culture/history wise, Russia and the Ukraine are kin folks. Russia is trying to conquer Without a lot of civilian casualties but underestimated the Ukraine’s will to fight. Russia might decide to go all out with air strikes full of civilian casualties if Putin becomes impatient.

Ukraine has several hundred Javelins and Brit tank killers too. No doubt they have a lot of old Soviet era tank killers too.
