So they were sent there and are there legally.
Great...time for a little "mission creep" and light 'em up!

u do realize they are prohibited from performing any law enforcement duties, to include detaining illegal immigrants, seizing drugs, etc., right? They are not even armed.

We don't even need a new spending bill because we have plenty of soldiers stationed at comfortable bases that have been tamed for over 40 years (Germany, Japan, etc.).

weve kept troops deployed into combat areas for damn near 2 decades. I’ll give em a pass.

Depends on the region and the situation. Let military protect the border until the wall is complete? After that the need for manpower will decline sharply?

He's the commander-in-chief. Surely we have enough man power in the Middle East with the Army and Air Force.

The Marines are perfectly capable of doing border patrol should the need arises. Who is against this? We don't even need a new spending bill because we have plenty of soldiers stationed at comfortable bases that have been tamed for over 40 years (Germany, Japan, etc.).
Where else in the country do we deploy our more elite armed forces to guard against a low-level misdemeanor?

If you haven’t noticed Marine Bases are strategically located

Their job isn’t border protection

If you want to change the law, then work to change it. Bottom line: 1st offense illegal entry is a relatively low-level misdemeanor. I'm guessing you've committed a few such misdemeanors during your term as citizen of the US and have never thought twice about them.

For example, under-age drinking in Louisiana is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in prison (the same as 1st offense illegal entry.) I think we should get the Marines out there to make sure L'il Johnny isn't illegally drinking and then driving drunk and/or causing other drunken mayhem.

A posse comitatus enforces domestic law.

Defense against military invasion is NOT enforcement of domestic law.

Right..it's national security issue to repel an invasion of criminal aliens?

If having an invasion of 20-40 million criminal aliens isn't a large enough invasion of criminals...what would that number be, in your opinion, to justify a military interdiction?

Defending the country is NOT the same as enforcing its laws.

yeah..yeah.."but, muh INVASION and shite!". Not the same thing and only a disingenuous asshat will insist that it is.
BHP, there are tons of such asshats here who have been making EXACTLY this argument for more than three years.

But welcome aboard.

This is a non sequitur.
Second offense is a felony. Comparing the invasion of felons with the intent to commit more crimes has nothing in common with drinking a beer before legal age.

Weak analogy.

* I'm sure that teen beer party attendees pay $5000+ to attend each party.*

Immigration is a matter of domestic law. It is not a military invasion ... no matter the numbers involved.

There is NO NUMBER which would void the Posse Comitatus Act.

If the numbers are adequately-large, Congress can amend the Act.
