I agree but I was specifically saying “hydrocarbons” which is more general than shale oil hydrocarbons.

Is this what we commonly hear about as "fracking" - or is this some more advanced technique beyond what they are doing now?

I still think we need to concentrate on making nuclear as near 100% safe as in humanly possible -

I’m obviously biased but nuclear will always pose an existential threat to human society as seen across many continents over time
