DeSantis has the support of the GOPe because they have to back someone and they're not going to back Trump but I'd be happy as hell with DeSantis as President in 2024 or 2028
While I'm sure there are some Trump supporters that won't vote DeSantis the vast majority I know would gladly turn out for him
That said, a McCain/Romney/Bush type Presidency is not happening

Republicans have a real problem with optics. Their politics are really driven by a dying off demographic and their engagement with anyone else is repulsive to the moderate main body of American politics.
Election rigging fantasies from right wingers is cope. They lost 2020 because they managed to flip roles and finally made the dems seem like the Adults in the Room party. The GOP has a major problem. Their base has gone off the deep end. The future of American presidents is probably a long line of Biden (center) and Manchin (moderate right of center) all getting elected out of the Dem big tent that exists solely as a popular middle class rejection of right wing conjecture and conduct.

A larger portion is tired of hearing about 2020 and continuing to harp on it makes Republicans look like lunatics to the vast majority of the population who does not pay that close of attention to politics and has no idea about the inconsistencies that have been found.
Obviously there was some frickery going on, but the more that messaging gets blasted, the worse it looks for Republicans.
Like it or not, the MAGA coalition needs the people who still support the Paul Ryan types. The RINO coalition needs the MAGA base. Neither base has enough numbers to beat a Democrat alone as long as the left continues to get the 18-29 demographic voting in record numbers.
