That’s part of my issue with making it totally legal and being able to buy it while you fill up at the gas station. We don’t live in a vacuum and we don’t have a largely libertarian society. I’m expected to subsidise screw-ups, whether it’s booze or pot or sheer laziness. If “libertarians” cared half as much about social spending as they do getting high we might get somewhere as a country. But they clearly don’t.

Again, those aren't arguments
I wasn’t arguing with you lol. I mean unless you’re against decriminalization I have nothing to argue with you about

I’m not pretending it’s tougher. You aren’t reading a single damn thing I said. Depression, anxiety, and suicide don’t come from the “toughness” of life as much as they come from feeling directionless and purposeless. It doesn’t matter if life is less tough now
Dude. Fry up a rat for your family’s next meal, because that’s all you got to eat, and let me know how depressed, anxious, and suicidal you feel at the thought that your prospects for something better for you and your family aren’t any better for tomorrow. Talk to me about feeding a family of seven through the dustbowl like my grandfather did.

I always say everything is better today than yesteryear, but I do think the individualization/fracturing of everything contributes massively to mental health struggles. I know one thing - we are not wired for twitter/facebook/etc. constantly firing our brains.

Again, you simply just aren’t understanding what I’m saying
It’s not about feeling that you can’t better your life or feeling that your situation is bleak. Those feelings create bitterness and sadness. Like I said those things give people a purpose because they present immediate issues that must be dealt with and occupy the mind at all times
What I’m talking about is the exact opposite
Not feeling like you can’t provide for your family or your situation will never turn around, but feeling like there is nothing in this life that could ever make you feel like you’re in a good place. That you could have a loving family, a well paying job, and altogether a fine life, but still feel like you have no purpose and your life is repetitive, directionless, and meaningless. The feeling that no matter what you do, you will never find anything in the world that will truly matter, because momentary happinesses are just followed by long stretches of nothing
THAT’s what drives people today into depression and suicide, and existential crises.
I don’t expect you to be able to relate to those lines of thought, because not everyone can. Religious people especially already believe they have their greater purpose and that’s fine. But don’t act like you know all about these topics when you don’t even know the very basics

An “argument” in this context means presenting a rational position and defending it. “We should do this, and this is why”.
Friggin dopers.

No I mean I literally wasn’t debating with you. Like you just inserted yourself and I never even said anything to combat you. So I don’t know why you’re trying to act like I did something I didn’t.
