Never been to Portland, but I've heard good things about it.
I have been to Seattle and really enjoyed my time there.

My brother lived in both cities. He said Portland was a shithole but Seattle had a soul. He died in Seattle.

I hated living in Seattle. You have to have some kind of screw loose to enjoy living there. Visiting is one thing but living there day in, day out sucks.

I worked in Portland occassionally and liked it better than Seattle because it was a bit less congested and a bit more open. I felt claustrophobic living in Seattle.

Things calmed down when the police starte arresting people as soon as they started throwing things
This is the most astonishing news of all. You mean to tell me the police are policing on the left coast? Good gawd...

I think Portland is trying to find a solution to get these people off the streets

You mean by sticking tiny apartments in the backyards of homeowners who then wouldn't own that building until after 5 years? Tiny homes for homeless

I'm glad I stopped on the east side of the Cascades. The beer is also better here.

The caveat is my brother was a recovering addict. He was showed no love in Portland where in Seattle they embraced him. They sent him to school and he got a degree. Counseling other addicts. He died as an addict.
He just couldn't shake his demons.

The anarchists were attacking the communists (who were peacefully marching). That's what's so Damn funny. The people that call themselves anarchists ARE, in fact, communists.

The USA is probably the only country in the world that will tolerate these transgender assholes running around burning flags, and somehow, their beef is with the USA...

That's a proposal that is probably not going to happen. The loons realize that the city is getting fed up with their coddling of the homeless and are looking for another place to put them...

The beer is not better east of the Cascades. Some good beer out there, but not better than Portland. I do like Barley Brown's and Crux Fermentation Project, but there are better spots in Portland.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Portland has tried very hard to catch up with Seattle in that regard in the past 10 years. The people we are referring to are mainly addicts, and enabling them is not the answer. They need help, and forcing them into treatment usually doesn't work, but neither does enabling them.

Since you are all here, if I come to Portland with the intention to brewery hop, is it easy enough to Uber/cab?

They/we are not sure. They are using a general anti-Trump sentiment as an excuse to go out and release some stress.

Yes. You can easily do it. I did it 3 weeks ago with 3 posters from this website.
