Can we get homosexuality reclassified as a mental disorder like it was? How about transgenderism? Oh oh oh, let's get Racism classified too! Now let's see, progressivism, Liberalism, conservatism,...
Let's classify EVERY -ism as a disorder and this way we can effectively ban all guns! Eureka! We have found a way to end the 2A!!!

If you can't recognize the difference in having an account manager and a court appointed person handling your finances I am not real sure you should be allowed to own a firearm.

No, not really. There a lot of cases in probate court where children of an older parent try to get POA of their dad's finances because dad has a young girlfriend that basically drains kid's future inheritance. Actions like this happen all the time. That is not a mental illness, it's dad is lonely and likes getting blowies from a 25 year old and will buy her whatever she wants to ensure that continues.

I can recognize it. But what's to stop the Feds under a liberal administration from claiming there's no real difference?

I'm not sure if this is exclusive, but Social Security Administrative Law Judges make this distinction. It's not just that they have a mental illness, but simply that they are incapable of managing their benefits. Certainly mental illness can be and is often a huge factor in determining that an approved disability claimant have an appointed representative payee, but it boils down to the ability to manage ones benefits check responsibly. If a claimant has a history of substance abuse, many ALJs will determine that that individual needs to have a rep payee as well.

Using the reasoning of balancing a checkbook: not one member of the fedgov (not many state gov employees either since they contribute to the fed problem) should have a gun since they are unable to balance the government budget.
