Big Pharm firmly believes that this TV advertising that they do to be effective in boosting sales.
In a world of me-too medications, DTC advertising isn’t nearly as pernicious as it appears. If someon wants the “purple pill” instead of Prevacid, does it matter? If someone wants Viagra over Cialis, does it matter? How about Zyrtec over Allegra?

You are saying commercials educate you on the drug?
No. But commercials make me aware of their existence. If I take drug A for condition X because so far, it's been the best (or only available) at controlling my condition but maybe I have some side effects that could be better managed, I'd love to know when drug B comes out so that, before I even make an appointment with my doctor, I have learned all I can about the drug and how it may impact my condition. Example: Coumadin vs. Xarelto.
But I have never ever taken a drug before reading the entire PI and doing my own research. I go to the doc very well informed.

Good for you. Some do not understand things like relative risk versus absolute risk reduction. When looking at big changes in cost the more data the better. Cost, risk, and efficacy are the balls to juggle for the informed consumer.
