My son is going in the AF next month. It's still one of the very best alternatives for a lot of kids. I'm confident that his Mother and I raised him in a way that he will reject the "woke" BS. At the same time, he knows to keep his mouth shut and do his job.

Tell him don’t do it.
Why would you want some president or senator to send them to fight a pointless war for nothing.
I am a Iraq Purple Heart vet and I would be incredibly angry if my kids signed up to work for the government in any capacity.
Especially the violent arm of the state.

I retired from the Navy Reserves back in December 2019 after 22 years. 4+ active, the remainder in the reserves. Just don't let him go in the Army. It's a clusterfrick there.

It is. I’m sure the Sec of Defense will work hard to spread that shite to the other branches

Is that any better? He wants to go
Military and get his college degrees while serving 20-25 years. He’s set on computer stuff and they have a good program but it worries me
Would not recommend. He will make way way more in a computer related field in the private sector. Most of the tech stack in the military is light years behind what is used in the private sector.
Also banking on getting degrees while serving active duty in my experience is something someone always says and very few follow thru. Active duty lifestyle just doesn’t lend itself to getting 4 year degrees from good universities. Things might have changed somewhat with online classes.

Push him towards the Space Force. If only to get their cool uniform patches and an awesome resume talking point.

Might go a long way these days if he is.

I would say do it a million times over. All the training an clearance he would get as an data guy and certification on fiber optics and installation and trouble shooting will only help him the day he gets out. Then add in the Intel clearances he will get plus gi bill. Yes 100x over if you raised him right the bullshite won't phase him and airforce is 100% the way to go. Doing the same job in navy or army would imo not put him on the same path. Airforce 100% do it make sure he gets what he wants and don't let them talk him into another job.

That’s exactly what he wants to do. Go military and get years of experience and his degrees. Retire after 20-25 years. He’d be in his early to mid 40s and would have decades to work in the civilian world and draw his pension.
I would make sure he is tracking the new retirement pension is not what is was and unsure if I would do 20year with new Blended retirement system. Prob minimum time to aquire certs he wants and qualify for gi bill and get out.

My son left the A.F. about 3 years ago, he got a good education from them and I'm proud that he served, especially the honor guard duties for funerals. He went for Cyber Security.
All that aside, they were pushing leftist agenda crap even back then. The B.S. he had to endure was several times worse than what I experienced as a grunt in the Army or a contractor for the A.F.
Send him to college and kick his arse through it if you have to.

You should have invested time & money into travel ball, baw!
He would be sitting prime with a half scholly to a red clay juco.

I don’t want him confirming to this woke BS
He will be taking classes online with tests that force him to agree that diversity of all things is improvement.
IE: a leadership team would be more efficient and effective if it included an ex-con drug user, an ex prostitute and an ex babysitter even if they had no professional skills relevant to the mission. Their "life skills" would be an invaluable asset to the team.

My son left the Corp last year. Glad he served. But so glad he’s out.

My maternal great-grandfather served in WWI.
My paternal grandfather was a Marine Corps officer in WWII.
My maternal grandfather was an Army Officer in WWII.
My father was an Army combat engineer in Korea.
My father-in-law was an Army officer in Vietnam.
I served a hitch as an enlisted Marine myself.
I was raised to believe that military service was a noble and honorable way to demonstrate your appreciation for the many freedoms that we citizens have inherited as our birthright. I am thankful, appreciative and proud that I served in the Marine Corps to this very day.
Some of the most lasting and enduring friendships I have experienced were made in the Marine Corps. I further have found that applying the core values I was taught in Marine Corps boot camp have served me well in my personal and professional life.
Yet the Pentagon daily violates those values and in effect serves as the global enforcing arm of a godless Empire. So I will do everything in my power to dissuade my teenage son from joining the United States Armed Services.

He has put thought into this for a couple years and done his research and such.
One last thing
My son did 7 years, he was nervous about leaving because the A.F. was scaring him about recessions and layoffs and the cut-throat private sector. When he did "pull the trigger" he got 6x his military pay, and companies are stealing him from each other. ( Amazon gave him 10K signing bonus, a contractor to the Pentagon paid it back, gave him another bonus and a substantial raise. He is at another job now and people are begging him to come "visit" to check them out.
Don't spend too long in the military's poverty.
Also - the A.F. only allows college classes if you pay for it, on your own time, if you qualify. But you do earn credits that MAY transfer in tech school. He should also check out the 1B4, very valuable school right across the eastern border.
Recruiters are lying salesmen.
