They should highlight the meth addicts they have working the drive-thru.
You can order an iced tea and get the guy-behind-you's Dr. Pepper faster than she could light up her pipe.

FWIW, I am glad the thread rolled on. As stated earlier, there are quite a few posters that can bring nuance to the discussion. It has been quite awhile since I have seen T-bird put “pen to paper” on an issue. I, for one, appreciate it.

It's intellectually untenable. And I love the attempts to flip it into a gotcha If all the IR couples disappeared from advertising tomorrow, I'd be like "huh, that's weird," and go buy milk and eggs like normal. I wouldn't be posting threads bitching about "WHY ARE THERE ONLY SAME-RACE COUPLES IN ADVERTISING?! I DEMAND COUPLES THAT LOOK LIKE MY HOUSEHOLD!" I truly, truly do not give that much of a shite. Others are affected on some deep emotional level by seeing IR couples in ads, and it's so odd--especially when they'll say they don't have a problem with it. Either you do or you don't--you really can't have it both ways. And if you do? Cool. This is America--I can deal with people who are bothered that I didn't end up with a black chick--no skin off my nose. My marriage is healthy, my kids are healthy, the sex is great, and we'll hit a decade of wedded bliss this summer. IDGAF
Like you said, it's definitely an odd thing to get worked up about. Buy the product offered or don't, why get pissed off that the shiller doesn't match your skin color expectations? It's just weird to get that bothered about it.
Going into an interracial thing, you have to expect people to feel some kind of way about your relationship. White people, black people, they all have an opinion on your marriage. We don't want to hear about how much you support us, or how you're an ally, etc., any more than we want to hear how one or both of us are race traitors or something similar. How about you stfu and mind your own business? Can you do that? We've been married for sixteen years, together for twenty-three. The reactions we get are still a source of amusement for us. Go on and be mad, we're just going to laugh at you.

What are those dangers, exactly? Your left wing ideas and sickness might be challeneged?
You might get your feelings hurt?
You put it out there, you might get criticized for it. Seems you're the fragile one.
The local Sonic here stopped hiring teens and stooped to hiring meth addicts, as evidenced by their characteristic dental rot. So, we stopped going.

Says the one who has been working overtime trying to go for the "you're so outraged!" routine while I've been doing nothing but calmly answering point by point, same as you
You've even tried to throw up a smokescreen with "oh, if it's not myopic, it must be racism, right?" Just silliness--I don't play those games. Idk why this interracial couples thing is such an emotional issue for you, but as for me, I simply enjoy the academic nature of debate for the most part. I like long form discussions, and this is a subject that I have a lot of experience with personally and even scholastically. It's a thought exercise for me, and it interests me to see it play out in real time as I raise my own family.

I still don't understand how Jake from State Farm turned black.
If you want to market towards black people, why not just add "Cedrick from State Farm"?
Now are you saying they should have felt obligated to replace him with a white guy and you would be OK?

I assume Sonic wants us to know that it's ok for you to eat at Sonic with your rebound BBC.....or your white girl with issues who's fresh off divorcing the nerd who now owes her child support and alimony.

Bowing to wokism is.
Who cares if a couple on TV is white, black, white/black, or purple fricking polka-dotted?
It's a liberal thing. And ONLY a liberal thing.

As long as you're okay with a toothless meth addict serving your fries and asking if she can keep your change from the drive-thru window.
That was my last Sonic experience.

The posters on your side of the argument. I don't even have cable to watch commercials.

That makes you the liberal, not me. I'm sure you'll need some time to come to terms with this new revelation about yourself.

No, I think most are saying they were thrown by the fact that a commercial that grew to be a cult classic had a character in it all of a sudden look radically different with zero explanation proffered. "Jake" from State Farm was some dumpy middle aged white guy in khakis, then all of a sudden he's a fit, attractive black dude? No one cares that he's black. It's the unexpected, unexplained switch that threw people. Would have been better if they'd just changed the name, IMHO. Let the new actor build his own legacy. Dude is obviously charismatic enough, and is getting far more face time than the original "Jake."

No, what they care about is lame arsed commercials that bow to wokism and put bi-racial couples in their commercials to satisfy the liberal "gods" - solely for the sake of wokism.
I guess you aren't able to tell the difference. This didn't come about because biracial marriages are more common or more accepted. It came about as yet another "me too" movement where corporations feel the need to bow to liberal whims.
Why not have two trannies in their next commercial? Sonic should be forced to answer this question.
If you doubt me, or can't grasp the concept, you're the liberal, not me.

Simple fact.
Do you think Sonic is doing this at random?
Yes or no. Simple question.
