I can't speak for every educator, but I wrote the following post a couple of days ago in another thread:

I love what I do for a living. I am ready to go back tomorrow.

Currently, my students are tasked with an already scheduled research project. With it they are to design community-based events (tourism?) or propose catalysts for business introduction / expansion. The goal is to provide our local elected officials with "options" to explore concerning economic recovery post Covid 19.

For those that are interested, these a few of the ones that I have reviewed so far:

-Tryke night - tricycle drag races on a downtown portion of the Trace (the result of a rails to trails program).

-The Tour du Trace...a 60 mile bike race on the aforementioned Trace

- A revision of the "block party" conceptually (typically held during the "nicer months") to where they are based around different brands of autos

- Re-purposing a virtually empty mall into an indoor amusement park (using the coasters of the closed amusement park: Jazzland)

- Utilizing the old courthouse (located downtown) to host dances
such as a barn dance, sock hop etc. during the winter months when the block parties are not held.

In short, what has been turned in so far has met the expectations of the assignment.

Previous poster before you essentially did, however, I know plenty of this board hate teachers. I mean frick look at people pointing out grammar mistakes, it's a fricking message board. Do you proofread everything you type on here?

Teachers are important moving forward, while you have plenty of students who would develop perfectly fine being home school families can't afford it and too many students benefit from what they've learned from quality educators. Do they have shite educators? Yeah but they have shite doctors, lawyers, welders, mechanics, engineers, etc.... But educators seem led to be lumped together on this board as all being shite.

Just weird for people to be upset because they have one or two they know who may do some bitching.

and the entire military is still getting paid too. Even non essential and those on full telework. Crying about teachers is a weird cherry pick

Hell that is all they do now is teach to test. Teachers are probably happy testing is cancelled as it won't show how bad they did

Schools have been closed but teachers are still holding classes and making assignment/grading. Why would you not pay them? Plus most of them have to be paid thru the summer.

Pretty sad our "teachers" can't budget their pay to last all year. I think all pay should be tied to performance and no tenure. Get rid of bad teachers and help the good ones

I haven't agreed with most of your postings, but I agree on these points. I believe teachers with the best results should receive bonuses. Unfortunately, teacher unions have made this impossible. Older teacher always make more more money automatically than younger ones no matter what. This is problematic and leads to laziness. I agree with no tenure to an extent, that can be dangerous because this also means administration has to operate the school like a business, which we do not. In this scenario, we teachers should have the right to discipline as we see fit and remove problem students who do not wish to be there. Even as a Republican, No Child Left Behind really screwed up how we discipline and allow misbehaving students to stay in the classroom and cause havoc.

Another issue is how do you pay on performance? If I teach 8th grade and you pay me based on their performance, how is this calculated? For example, I spent three years teaching in the Delta and five years in a much more affluential part of the state. There is no way on Earth that my Delta kids could by year's end be on the same level because they get to me so much further behind. So, are you paying on performance, improvement, combination of both, or other variables?

I will agree that more punishment options should be available. The local teachers can basically only verbally get on to a student

They are paid through August.

If you want to suspend salaries then September would be the time.

I don't hate teachers , they just aren't as smart as they think they are.

Going to college and getting a degree then CHOOSING to work a low paying job is stupid especially when you say a person doing manual labor is dumb..

I have a sister-in-law who is a teacher and all she does is bitch.

I just laugh at her and tell her to change professions.

Actually they do. They only work like 7 hours a day and work 8 months out the year and make 44k a year. That’s like over 30 an hour if you add the 4 months off

This is a really dumb take. Of all govt employees you would go after teachers first? Wow.

But...I would expect no less from this website on a political viewpoint. This is a bit extreme for me.
