The fact that you feel the year is nullified because testing wasn’t done
The information and processes in the classroom are dismissed or deemed secondary to the test score.
I see it in our kids teachers as well. It makes for a less than fulfilling classroom experience

Most kids were done for the year anyway, we were going into the 4th 9 weeks. I had 4 weeks until testing to get in New material then after testing I would start teaching the next year's worth of material.
Right now I'm still working and producing new material online and I have about 80% participation. So those students who are doing what they need to are not missing as much and at least they are seeing the material.
The amount of testing they do now is fricking stupid and too many areas teach to the test instead of teaching for the knowledge of the material.

And my kids school woulda spent 5 weeks having field trips, spirit day, pajama day, field day, awards day, movie day, grab arse day......they don’t do much if anything once testing is over.
That and half the tone is with subs. And our school is a top 10 or so elementary in the State.

It’s such a long post. Wish I could read all that

To a great degree, test scores affirm that the information and processes in the classroom have been effectively disseminated. I am not the biggest fan of standardized testing but there is no avoiding it. As long as they use it to evaluate us and tie pay to it, I will bust my arse all year to see that my students do well on it.
Also, the 7 weeks of closure go a great distance in nullifying the previous work, as it does not appear that we will be allowed to make that up by attending through May and June.

They?? Every superintendent is asking not to?
They(whoever they are) would follow the recs of educators. Educators are clamoring to stay out.

Yeah, it's like a lawyer trying to tell us why a Navy Captain was relieved of command.

I can only speak for myself. I desire to complete the year including (at least) some of the missed time. As for superintendents, it has been my experience that my recommendation(s) have little to no influence on their decisions.

How much does that pay? I could use some extra cash.

There was not an apparatus in place to effectively continue the instructional year. The contingency plans of assigning remedial work via online educational platforms is mainly for appearance, as scores are not recorded and are not mandatory. During the first week, participation was at ~50%. It is now <10%.
Not sure where you are located, but this isn't true across the board. Different districts implemented online teaching differently. The first week (or 2) in many districts was review used to keep kids in learning mode and to get everyone adjusted to the new methods.
Several districts here have already started online attendance and grades. TEA is requiring online grades as a compromise to extending the school year.

I was aware that our difficulties were not indicative of everywhere. I personally believe our initial efforts were to see if it was viable. The initial response was good, not great. When the idea of it being mandatory was floated, it was shot down because of parental complaints concerning the lack quality internet coverage.

bullshite. the hardest job is having a pixie hair cut and raising Bradyn, Hadyn, and Ladyn through this pandemic. For chrissakes, they haven't even got to pick out one of the three bats their travel ball leagues allow.

And I bet your daughter has no problem finding a job, either. These types of teachers should be paid more than they are.

These should be paid less.

This thread is very educational .
One teacher posts a response with bad grammar.
And another teacher says people who do manual labor are dumb.
i think what is dumb is choosing to waste a degree on a low paying job (teaching) and then complaining about how tough and low paying it is.
Public schools are shitholes because of bad parents , bad teachers and horrible administrators.

That might be the worst post of the year congratulations. For the record their are plenty of good public schools. If you truly believe teachers should Should he paid less then you can’t be taking seriously.
