I've had one Muslim girlfriend. Not as hairy as you'd expect. I also live in the most Muslim-heavy zip code in NYC, which, in 2014, was the NYC zip code with the lowest violent crime rate and is currently top tier in terms of safety. Of the thousands of interactions I've had with Muslims, the only time I ever experienced anything negative that I would attribute to their shitty culture is when Farooq the cashier at Circle K on Highland/State in Baton Rouge grabbed his crotch while looking at my then-girlfriend.

I partied with some in college that got deported because their local mosque got busted sending their donations over to terror groups in the middle east. They were so nice and loving of western culture, too. It was crazy.

Not sure about Syrian, but as far as muslim...Some ive met were good people as far as I knew. The ones I knew best had arranged marriages and the women were not "allowed" to do a lot of things though. They were silently second class citizens.

One dude was crazy. I would be a grand right now his bleached bones are back somewhere in the ME where he returned for his chance at immortality.

It is not the 100 good Muslims to worry about, it is the 1 nut. And yes, that is enough to limit those coming in until we have a means of verifying identities.

I don't care. The majority of Americans oppose refugee resettlement. Politicians are putting the needs of a few hundred thousand Syrians above the needs of over 100 million of their own countrymen.

We didn't get a vote on this, and now some judge who I never voted for is forcing this down our throats. This isn't democracy.

If we can save just one life from a possible terrorist among the incoming refugees it will be worth the heavy vetting.

1st generation muslims are assimilating well in a majority western society where they have no say over the rest of western civilization?

I'm so shocked.

2nd Generation muslim are the problem in Europe and will likely be the problem here as well if we don't do everything we can to dodge that bomb. It's over when 3rd generation muslims get here.
This rhetoric undersells how influential our culture in this country is and has always been. A bunch of dumb rednecks and sharecroppers played blues-based music that isn't even that good and it transformed the entire world. Culturally, we rule the earth, and nobody changes us. Those who fear Muslims will have a terrifying effect on our society are dullards who don't have much to offer.

2nd and 3rd generation muslims have no interest in doing this at all.

Places like Sweden, Germany, France and the Netherlands didn't understand that lesson and they're paying the price for it right now, Trump does and we're doing everything we can to dodge that missile.

Worked for an old, Arab pathologists for a 3-4 year period. Not sure his country of orgin. Mean, dirty old man.

Worked closely with the (Pakistani) business owner for a clinical research company. Seemed pretty devout. Always in traditional dress and would make sure that there was no pork of any kind near his plate when we ate out. But a very, very nice guy. Sweet family. 2 daughters. Wife was very nice as well. Wore a head dress, but no covered face.

Then there are parents in my kids school, lots of physician acquaintances. I've never felt threatened personally, but I still acknowledge the realities of our world. I do feel sorry for "normal" US Muslims, but that doesn't change the realities of extremism. And caution/fear/suspicion is a normal reaction to an unfamiliar culture beginning to "move in".
