Tell me again how tariffs dont work
Sure. Be glad to.
The average Chinese factory worker makes roughly $6 an hour.
The average American factory worker makes about $17 an hour.
That's almost three times the labor cost to make them here vs making them there. Not to mention the lower cost of real estate, facilities, and regulations there.
So one of two things (or some combination of the two) has got to now happen:
1. Buick has to decide to take a massive loss in profits on the "next-generation Buick" (whatever that means) line, or...
2. They'll be significantly more expensive than they otherwise would be.
But hey, we get several hundred what amount to minimum wage jobs we didn't have in Kansas City in a labor market in which employers already can't fill the minimum wage job openings that already exist.
What a bargain! "Muh 'Merca 'Fust, Yawl!"
So, yeah. Tariffs suck toad arse.
You're welcome.

I notice you don't offer any specifics.

This makes Americans go back to work?
You may have missed the detail that employers can't fill low wage jobs as it is.
Exactly how is this going to force someone to go back to work?

Insults might not be the best way to prove your point.
Why don't you look up the ISM Manufacturing Index and see whether or not US manufacturing activity is expanding or contracting.

If you subsidize something, you will get more of it. By disincentivizing production in, say, China, you will get less of it. Not necessarily a bad thing, but that tells us nothing about the overall impact of the tariff at issue or tariffs in general. What is the impact on prices? What about the impact on other industries or businesses who don't directly benefit from the protectionist policy? Classic example: Sugar cane growers benefit from sugar tariffs, but candy makers are harmed by them.
If you only look at the impact on the specific business or industry favored by the tariffs, you would think tariffs are always a net good, but that generally is not the case. It would be like looking only at the fast food workers in California who retained their jobs when the minimum wage was raised to $20 per hour and not looking at whether employees lost their jobs or were never hired in the first place.

If tweet fails to load, click here. I'm not sure why any domestic auto companies are building vehicles overseas. It can't simply be over wages for hourly employees.
There was a time 20-30 years ago when the UAW had wages for autoworkers in the top percentile of union jobs but over the past 20 years the UAW autoworker's wages have flatlined when inflation is factored in. The average hourly wage for a UAW autoworker today is $33/hour and new hires start under $20/hour.

Lol how many of those they sell a year?

So, by your logic we should not build anything in the US, and should outsource everything to China, because their workers are willing to work for $6 per hour.
That's a fantastic idea.

Yep.

Real estate is laughable as it is owned by the government in china. They get their cut. Regulations are being bitch slapped as we speak.

The tariffs make it more profitable to manufacture them here. That is why they are moving production here. Simple math.

2. They'll be significantly more expensive than they otherwise would be.
Not with the tariffs. Again, that is why they are bringing the production back. [

Well they are creating an economic boom so the GDP says you are not very bright.
Your welcome.
