The key piece is the urban versus rural divide. The urban centers were pretty diverse religiously but the rural areas suffered economically which pushed the rural folks into the cities. The urban area was around 48% of the population versus 53% who lived in the rural areas. The mass migration of the rural inbreeds into the city is what caused the collapse. The White revolution is what allowed for the takeover.

Let’s not forget Canada who made a strategic agreement with China. Trump didn’t tell them about the operation in advance which has pissed them off. The reason is because they would have tipped off Iran.

If a renter is earning 20% of his monthly rent back (up to 24k) back at the end of the year is pretty attractive when you deposit your money and immediately pay in US dollars. The rent you would earn back offsets any swap costs in my opinion.
