This seems like a stretch, but if its true 
this would essentially be the death knell of the modern GOP- the party salvaged itself during Watergate because it had leaders willing to stand up to Nixon. Contrast that with today where Paul Ryan is basically a lapdog to Trump at least as long as he views Donnie as a useful tool.
