Cobalt is a crucial element in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries, which are found in Tesla cars, among most other consumer electronics. ... Most cobalt is mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo amid horrendous labor conditions.

Highly toxic and problematic when disposed of as waste.

No oil changes. Comparison in maintenance could be a time/money saver.

Not only that, but no more service engine lights. MAF sensor, cam shaft sensor, crank shaft sensor, O2 sensor, vacuum leaks, anti freeze, water pumps, timing belts, alternator, plugs, etc. You will trade all that for having to deal with battery replacement.

So, why should I buy a Telsa? I'm not really seeing it from a practical standpoint.

Decision is up to you. But here is some info on my friend's Model 3 ownership experience.

Range and charging are always a concern on the mind because of the limited places you can charge it. If you decide today to go somewhere like a short roadtrip on a whim you could strand yourself or really inconvenience yourself. Refueling for gas vehicles is relatively instant compared to an elec car. If you are on a trip you have to build in time for charging.

Winter time - since there is no combustion engine there is no waste heat for heating the cab. The heater can drastically affect your battery charge/range.

The body on the car is made of some soft plastic that can scratch just leaning on it much less getting dinged in a parking lot.

will have to install charging station at home and that locks you in to the "parking space"

Pros

good high tech stuff including self driving.

very good acceleration

pretty good second car for people on the go.

Take it FWIW
