Speaking of, you missed some commas.

And failed to capitalize "God". That's a sinful error in writing mechanics. I may've missed a comma somewhere back there, but at least I'm not gonna go to Hell for it.
Guess I better "I kid, I kid".

I was at LSU at the time. Very creepy time. That made it hard for the women at LSU to enjoy the experience. Everybody was looking for that white truck.

Yeah I remember this. My friend had to give a DNA sample because an ex girlfriend called the line about him out of spite.
I think you mean “chose to”, not “had to”

“They clearly didn’t have a suspect when the information was presented to them. Were the Investigators really that obtuse to ignore all of the circumstantial evidence pointing to DTL over a single statement from an over night trucker? “
Yes
The guy who posted about St Martin Sheriff is 100% incorrect. NO ONE had DTL’s DNA in the system. They had the killers , but not DTL’s. They knew they had a serial killer bc the DNA from the victims matched, but did not have any DNA in the database that it hit against.
This when Pam Kinamore was murdered , they focused on her wheel chair bound husband for a couple of weeks until the DNA came back. The truck driver’s witness statement came in later and matched the FBI profile. After this, the task force acquired by warrant and consent 500 or so DNA samples from white males.
Shortly after the Murray Pace DNA linked with Guna Green’s, David McDavid determined that it was DTL. He worked with James Piker for a year (maybe a little less) to figure out how to legally obtain a DNA sample. When they FINALLY got it , the sample
sat untested at State Police for months. The flip in the case was the incident in St Martim parish bc the victims son broke up the attach and actually saw the attacker. That DNA sat a bit bc it was a black male, but ultimately it tested and was a match with the other victims. Now the task force was in a tizzy bc they had been chasing a white male for the last 24 months instead of a black male . The son provided a description of a black male tray looked similar to DTL. At this point Piker and McDavid told everyone on the task force that DTL’s DNA was sitting at state police waiting to be analyzed. They rushed an analysis overnight. They held the arrest until the DNA analyst matched it up.

He killed my boss Gina Green. She fought like hell against him. I got a call that morning asking if Gina was at my office bc people have not heard from her. I was not concerned bc she would go workout or do other things in the morning. I came back from lunch and received the news that another co-worker went to her home and found her.

The Wayne Williams case (Atlanta serial murderer of children) was complicated because of this inherent bias/incompetence.

The craziest part of the story that doesn't get talked about is the other serial killer that was operating in BR at the same time. Sean Vincent Gillis. Killed more women than DTL did and evaded the police longer than DTL did.
Posted on 6/20/21 at 11:35 am to Beef Supreme
I agree Beef , but their victim of choice was different and ultimately DTL’s demise. DTL went after something he couldn’t have —a prettier, college or professional type woman. Gillis preyed on prostitutes and/or drug addicts. DTL’s victims were missed the moment they went missing or they were immediately discovered. Lots of media attention due to family and their status in socially. Gillis victims were found later and usually bc someone literally stumbled upon them. Not nearly the attention or pressure to catch him. Great police work ultimately caught him. They matched tire tracks at his last scene to a rare set sold in BR. Less than 20 people bought them. He was in the list and essentially confessed when they showed up to ask him some questions.

What is the title of the Derrick Lee episode? I missed it and cannot find it airing again.

My connections to this were statistically improbable—I used to see Pam Kinamore all the time at PBS. Gina Green was previously married to someone I grew up with. A Colomb family member is a customer of mine. My ex- wife was good friends and neighbors as teens with Randi Mebruer . Kinda weird to have 4 connections like that in an area with so many people.

I posted it b/c I can't believe the FBI got it wrong
Posted on 6/20/21 at 1:00 pm to Cali 4 LSU
The FBI profilers thought the killer was a white male because the known victims were white. The theory then was that serial killers did not cross racial lines as they hunted in communities where they felt comfortable. Wayne Williams was the first recognized serial killer to break this rule as the Atlanta Child Murderer but it was still an influential theory in the Lee case.
I know a lot about the Lee case from inside sources. The guy was an idiot and only made it as long as he did due to luck and law enforcement incompetence.

I didn't post this b/c of the current racial tensions being stoked given this was 20 years ago. I posted it b/c I can't believe the FBI got it wrong. And then to just dismiss the local officials, who by all arguments know their own communities best, seems arrogant.
Arrogant and stuffed with an agenda to the point of stupidity. Stupidity and arrogance is a dangerous combination.
