They were not erected to honor great men.
You know this how ... because you put up all these statues or were there with everyone who did?
You can say that you don’t believe that the men represented by some of these statues were truly great men, sure. You can even say a lot of them were deeply flawed by modern standards, or that they backed the wrong cause. But I’m not sure how you can state with authority that not one statue was erected by people who believed they were great men, who saw some form of greatness in them, or who thought a statue was less of an honor to the person depicted and more of a giant middle finger to the rest of the world.

If we properly record our history in archives or museums, then we won't lose anything.
History gets edited all the time, and historically it always toward the leftist's current agenda. Try comparing history textbooks covering the Pilgrims from today, 50 years ago, 100 years ago, and 200 years ago. Include the contemporary writings of the Pilgrims from the time. I guarantee you that history does not become more accurate the further in time that you move away from the event.

I believe the problem is 'should minority taxpayers be forced to pay for an object they believe to be uncomfortable'.
The statues are already paid for. Moving them and hopefully storing them costs additional money.

I think they should be in a museum where they can be studied and appreciated in the best possible way. But many people are going beyond the realm of academia and into a worship of these people.
You just made this up because it is not true.

The object is already there. It doesn't need to be paid for.
Should I be forced to pay tons of money for minority programs that I find offensive. Like welfare.
