We just abandoned all US citizens and interests of a border country? Nice take simpleton.

It's over 650 miles away from our border where this is happening. Wouldn't call that close.

You paid no attention during the War on Terror.

This was 20 years ago half way around the world.

The Cartels are sitting ducks in Mexico. We know where they are and who is involved.

You seem obsessed with killing a bunch of low level low iq police officers and politicians when nobody has suggested such,

We have the technology to remotely obliterate not only the actual cartel operations but all of their leadership as well. You seem stuck in 2005

Its not even just drone strikes we have weaponry that is not of this world that we haven't even used yet. All of it is remote controlled. 'Test' it on the cartels.

The CIA and centcom forces conduct daily kinetic operations in Syria. They kill people daily. I know this for a fact because I still have friends inside the intelligence community as I said I was in it from age 17-22 and my wife’s brother is currently deployed to centcom.

How is this a better use of our resources than at least being prepared and establish a strong border defense? It’s a hell of a lot more than 650 miles away

And yet, we don't and have never attempted to do in any context in any of our conflicts anywhere on earth.

You are on the internet too much apparently. No, we don't have secret vaporizers or something that can just poof thousands and thousands of cartel soldiers and leaders across a massive country like Mexico.

You're in fantasyland.

The bulk of their 'economy' is drugs and 'remittances' sent from the United States via their citizens who are Illegal Immigrants here.

No

Remittances are large, $65B or so, but that's only 3.5% or so of their total GDP.

The Mexican drug trade is only an estimate, but the higher end is sub-$50B annually, so it would be like 2.5% or so of GDP

Wrong.
My son is also a Marine.
Damn if I want him invading Mexico because you’re concerned about the what? Violence and drugs in their country?
Before that bullshite let’s get a firm grip on our own borders before crossing theirs in a fight.

I don’t know what he is referencing but we definitely have the air power to just utterly obliterate them into submission for as long as it takes. The MQ9 reaper drone is what my wife’s brother flies at centcom and it’s one of the most impressive things I’ve seen in terms of air power and that’s not even tech that’s been officially confirmed as in service by the pentagon even though it was first seen 15 years ago.

Consider what else we just might have?

You’re using the El Salvador comparison in way that insinuates I made the claim it would be just as easy to do

No I replied specifically to this post

quote:

El Salvador did it with just American intelligence help.

And explained why that policy would be insane with an actual economy and population like Mexico.

You can't just flip a switch to authoritarianism in a country like Mexico like they did in El Salvador. You're talking about the 13th largest economy and over 130M people (compared to around 6M for ES).

No amount of intel is going to change that.

Hell, with the scope of the cartels, flipping the switch to authoritarian like ES may not even work.

Stop putting words in my mouth or declaring im advocating things im not.

4 separate times in this thread ive argued the current appropriate action would be a heavy military build up on the border.

Is that not what you’re essentially asking for? How else would you want total control of it?

Yeah you replied to the post that included literally all the extra context about how much more help Mexico would need and have in it but curiously left that out

I like you man but it seems disingenuous

It's not a better use of resources. I'm in full agreement that something needs to be done just gotta go about it the right way. Don't think boots on the ground is the best option. You'd potentially be in another situation where the population itself hates you. Not trying to have Mexican kids throw rocks at me too

I'm not doubting our might or fire power.

I am outright laughing at the notion that we can eliminate tens if not hundreds of thousands of cartel members across 2 million square miles amongst a population of 130,000,000 on airpower and stand-off weapons alone.

We can bomb them for years. The minute we stop, they will pop right back up.

Mexico is honestly too big a country. It cannot be effectively policed by the citizens.

Yes it could. Much much larger countries handle it just fine.

Now would it be an extremely violent and bloody affair to bring it to that point? Yes 100x over. But that will only get worse and more bloody the longer they put it off

If you have the will to make something happen. You can make it happen

just said we should do something. I said I’d be content with heavily militarizing the border for now. I swear many of you guys are so far gone at this point into the “muh we can never use military force for any reason or it’s bad” camp you don’t seem to understand what the supposed main purpose of an army even is

Are you well traveled?

I ask because technology has made the world feel small and to think the cartels would just start driving up I-95 heading to Oakland seems like a very big stretch.

Along with this, they already have a lot of heat as they just shot up an airport, do you think it would be wise to cross our border with weapons from which we will say you “invaded” us under the constitution and we literally kill everyone?

The cartels act hard and they are some hardened dudes but they saw Venezuela with their own eyes on television. They do not want the United States poking around their territories any more than we already are.

You don’t know me, I am probably the most pro military person on this site. I know how superior we truly are to literally everyone else worldwide and my post history will prove that. This is a purely tactical opinion based on what the cartels have seen with their own eyes. We would kill them all and the guys we have doing it do this for a fricking profession. Their dicks get hard at the thought of combat. We are heading to a smaller but more elite force of men that specialize in just this.

The biggest farce we ever played on our people and the world was not that our military was good or that our equipment is good, it’s the fact we lie so well to make other countries seem much more capable than they really are just to maintain some sense of control. And stroke egos.

If we want to go with someone and we mean it and actually go full force no one, not even in a worldly joint effort, can stop us. I mean that.

It’s also why we probably have never cared about the national debt.
