If it costs a company in Country X $3 to produce the same item as an American company producing that item at $7 (landed cost with no tariffs) why would the American company gain market share when the domestically produced version is far cheaper?
American labor costs more. Maybe we can offset some of that with automation but that means fewer manufacturing jobs.
