Fed keeps its long-run forecast for economic growth unchanged at 1.8%
If the Fed honestly believes that projection, yet is aggressively raising rates, Powell probably needs to be removed.
Their goal is to keep inflation under 2% and the latest figure was 2.3% in September down from 2.7% in August and 2.95% in July.

What I'm not smart enough to figure out is how does raising rates control inflation being caused by tariff-induced price increases?

gdp isn't the other part of the mandate; unemployment is
and as we all know that one has been below the natural rate (per conventional wisdom) for a long time now
and the interest rate hikes we've seen seem to fit the timeline where they lean on that unemployment rate quite nicely

But unemployment is connected to gdp growth. All you want to do is fricking nitpick and argue. Go away, pissant.

lots of things are "connected" to the fed's explicit mandate
y'all were citing the wrong stuff as the decision criteria
going off gdp, 2015 would seem like a terrible time to start raising. but if you're going off unemployment, it's pretty much by the book. pointing this out in the context of this thread is absolutely in-bounds, and judging by the quality of comment in here, needed to be said. cry about it.
