Between the education system, poor choices being subsidized, the destruction of the nuclear family and the issues that leads to, etc. there’s a huge workforce gap that needs to filled and the problem isn’t gonna be solved domestically overnight.
Lack of talent may not describe it 100% but that and lack of work ethic is definitely a big part of it.

Every year in May, youtube videos jump up with "man on the street" interviews with new college grads, being asked very basic questions. The results are depressing. If we purged our nation of every foreign born engineer, the shortage would be staggering. Same with doctors. Few want to put in the work these days. The ones that have the ability, and want to excel, are very few. We have raised a very spoiled generation. A couple of generations.

This isn’t going to be a popular take but here goes. I run a small software development company. Up until about 5 years ago I had all state side developers. The younger developer generation is very entitled, lacks work ethic and demands high salaries. We moved to offshore. I can hire 3 offshore developers for 1 state side and get better employees. They almost never complain, don’t miss much work and get their shite done on time.
