I'm almost 50, and have known to pretend SS and the fake lockbox were never going to be around for me since I was about 22. Only the naive in my age group and younger could pretend otherwise.

This just in, the government wastes your money and makes promises it can't keep. And, trouble in the Middle East.

Like yeah just joined and maybe don’t fully get the culture of what I thought was more lsu sports related. Discovered politics board and it’s like…very much a club I don’t quite understand.

Does make me wonder if these people are like this in real life or is this just a kind of rage thing confined to the interweb

Good and they should also raise the withholding by 0.8 to 7.0%. During my working career of 45 years it was raised 3 times. No increase since 1987. Time for you loafers to pay up. In addition, the $176,100 max should be eliminated. Pay SS on all income. If I were still working it would hurt me but it needs to be done.

Can't do that. The workers in the system are paying for the current retirees

The boomers don't care. They are owed...we'll all be paying for them for the next 10 generations.

Imagine relying on Social Security

Imagine the govt forcefully taking money out of your check your whole life and then when you get older they give you back a small fraction of what you could have had if they had not taken it forcefully from you just by conservatively investing it yourself.

Now imagine after they screwed you over your whole life without consent they on a whim decide to change the rules. Maybe after you quit work.

Why is social security always broke but you never hear one politician say there is no more money for welfare and food stamps?
Because dems can buy votes from birth till retirement with foodstamps and welfare. SS can only buy votes after 65. They dont need to fan the SS is broke until it comes into play.
They must follow the hierarchy of control.

When I was about 40 the federal govt broke this promise to me and raised the retirement age to 70.

Nope. If you were born on or after January 1st, 1960 your retirement age for full benefits is 67. You can begin at 62 if you choose but it will be an 6% reduction per year until your full retire age of 67. Medicare begins at 65.

The history of Full Retirement Age and Life Expectancy is something that should be taken into consideration.

quote:

Initial Inception of Social Security (1930s)
Retirement Age: The full retirement age was set at 65.
Life Expectancy: Life expectancy at birth was around 62 years, and for those who reached age 65, the remaining life expectancy was about 12 years

quote:

Mid-20th Century (1940s-1970s)
Changes to Retirement: In 1961, Congress introduced an early retirement age of 62, with reduced benefits.
Life Expectancy Increase: Life expectancy for those reaching age 65 increased from approximately 12 years in the 1940s to around 18 years for men and 21 years for women by the 2010s.

quote:

Late 20th Century (1980s-Present)
1983 Reforms: Congress enacted changes in 1983 to address the system's financial future by gradually increasing the full retirement age.
Retirement Age Increase: The FRA was raised from 65 to 67 for those born after 1960, a change that fully took effect between 2022 and 2027.
Life Expectancy Today: Current U.S. life expectancy at birth is around 79 years, and it is projected to continue rising

quote:

The Current Situation
The substantial increase in life expectancy means that people are collecting Social Security benefits for significantly more years, while the full retirement age has only been raised by two years.

Read about how Galveston and two other Texas counties opted out of Social Security and how much they make monthly.

Remember, big bad FDR had a communist Chief of Staff and FDR loved Stalin's power that he had over his Russian comrades.

Opted Out of SOCIAL SECURITY.

Yeah people aren't paying in cuz our government pays them to sit home. And those that sit home are the most likely to find a way on to social security disability and SSI. If I were president for a day I would audit every person receiving any government, publicly funded benefit to include disabled veterans.

What a dildo!

The SS age for full benefits has increased already. That was in 1983 BEFORE the boomers came of age. It used to be 65 but was moved to 67 with a 33 year phase-in.

Social security would be fine if congress stopped pulling funds out of the trust and other funny business to play accounting tricks with the budgets.

No. No it wouldn’t.
