There ain't been a republican in decades that isn't a racist according to the left. Of course they're lying but when you don't have good ideas or policy lying is about all they can do

Again, we're talking about people that are openly calling him a racist outright while lauding other countries as superior in their policies.
They aren't lauding their respective countries of origin as superior to the US. Besides, that tired line is being touted by most liberals in general. Why not ask them to leave?

His response there didn't even rise to the level of equitable turnabout by comparison.
Cut from the same cloth in my opinion. Calling someone a racist, despite evidence to the contrary, because you disagree politically is poor form and cheap. Telling political opponents of foreign origin or heritage to leave and go back to their countries is also poor form and cheap.

One of the sources who was briefed on the conversation quoted him as saying: “Why do we want all these people from Africa here? They’re shithole countries ... We should have more people from Norway.”
Always an unnamed source.
Thats funny...I took the quote to say that people with no usable skills and from countries that have no culture similar to western values should not be the ones who get to stay simply because they forced their way in. That is a statement for a merit based immigration system.
Do you support a merit based system?
If the continent of Africa doesn't have countries that are basically shitholes in comparison to the USA, what countries would YOU point to that are "shitholes by comparison?

Why does that change anything?
Typically you don't tell someone to go and come back if you don't want them there at all. Doesn't wash.
quote:
Not one of the people he told to go back was white.
1.) He never called out anyone specifically
2.) Even if he had, so what? Should his retorts to someone's comments be somehow mitigated because of the color of their skin?
quote:
With his remarks, he is rabble-rousing people to be against Latinos.
Except he's stated several times he's not against legal latino immigration. Only those who abuse it for criminal purposes.
quote:
The person who is supposed to represent all of us instead is making a group of people feel very uncomfortable in their country.
Illegal immigrants SHOULD feel very uncomfortable in this country, or any other sovereign nation whose immigration laws they openly flaunt.
Also, please don't purport to speak for Latinos as a whole. I'm from a majority Hispanic city, and discomfort with Trump's comments was hardly a consensus reaction. Many applauded more effusively than rank and file white GOP.
quote:
Yes, it was divisive but not to the degree it is today.
I heartily disagree. Hillary and Donald were simply the political manifestations of the divide that had been fomented leading up to 2016. The screeching overreactions to EVERYTHING Trump says or does since winning the election only hammer home that point even more.

He did.

Agreed.
quote:
Telling political opponents of foreign origin or heritage to leave the country is also poor form and cheap.
Point of order: he didn't single out opponents of foreign origin or heritage.
He also told them to return and apply their fixes.
In the spirit of genteel discussion, I'm willing to cede ground on "poor form." Was it petty? Hell yes it was. Is that the temperature in Washington right now? Absolutely, on both sides. Is that due to Trump, or racism by Trump? Hell no.
So the real issue isn't Trump's racism (as you've stated, there's copious evidence to the contrary), but rather it's the virulent environment of the temperature constantly being raised on Capitol Hill, brought about by the contentious 2016 election.
Sure, Trump could turn the other cheek. Bush 43 did that and it didn't help him one iota. So idk what the man is supposed to do. shite like this is why normal people eschew politics now more than ever, tbh
