I thought that the Keystone XL Pipeline. which pulls oil out of Canada, is really crucial for our economy (according to a lot of posts I've seen on here). Wouldn't that Canadian Oil be something they have that we "need"?
Not if we get back to fracking here in the USA on all the shale plays. Dems and global warming anti-fossil fuels hippies have thrown a wrench into all that.

Yea I see soooooooooo much “Made in Canada” tags on EVERYTHING!
Vehicles made in Canada in 2024:
Chevy Silverado
Chrysler Pacifica
Chrysler Grand Caravan
Ford Edge
Lincoln Nautilus
Honda Civic
Honda CR-V
Lexus RX
Well, maybe they'll be made here now. Like they should be... at least as far as the American automakers are concerned.

Trump on Canada: 'we don't need anything that they have'
But he was likely just playing to the crowd and trying to send a message to Canada for trade negotiations

Trump is exaggerating again. Get ready for melts from the simple-minded folks who still haven't figured out how Trump talks.
I will own up to being simple-minded. Help me out: how do we know when Trump means what he says or if he's just exaggerating?

That's not true. Be careful who you call an idiot, when in the process, you reveal yourself to be one.
What Trump knows (that you don't) is that Canada sits on very shaky political and economic ground. This isn't just Trump talking shite. It's dealing with the reality that Canada, as we know it, may not survive the century.
But forget about all of the logic and reason for a minute... You only think its dumb because Trump said it. That was all the evaluation you needed.

From a negotiation setting standpoint, would you think it desirable for this to be absolutely 100% discernible in every instance?

Absolutely. The first thing we need to do is make vehicles that are assembled in foreign countries more visible to the consumer. How many people have bought one of these, not knowing that they weren't really buying a predominantly American-Made product?

That's an excellent point. Thanks.
Maybe the question comes down to who is the audience?
