Essentially true, JM; I've long realized that there is some psychological...'dynamic' (for lack of a better word) that causes people who are essentially good and well meaning...to take these totally (Idealistic/unrealistic) irrational, impractical and societally suicidal/calamitous leaps. I have wonderful, life long Friends who are smarter than me...that are all in anti-Trump. They have great retirement packages, and live a good life...yet...an OPEN BORDER...with unlimited Government Subsidization. Damn! WTF! It's like a total blind spot.
Being ignorant in the field of Psychology, I think it has something to do with one's innate self value; putting it the "virtue signaling" category. Which would be a subtle form of Narcissism. Honestly, (IMO) some degree of Self worth is great, and necessary for a healthy psyche. I can understand Lib people reacting to Trump's - and modern society's - narcissism (watch commercials on TV for 5 minutes for evidence)...but there is some little something in their Perceptive Bubble...that causes the rationality trajectory to go off target.
I note the Biblical quote "there is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof is destruction"...and wonder if it is this example. Of course, such could well be the innate (Natural) instinct for competition and self survival/prosperity as well. The premise behind the "Fermi Paradox" may well be the subject - and warning - for service to this (formerly invaluable) instinct, which now - given the acquisition of virtually unlimited Power via the coming Knowledge - become the motivating Human force for self destruction.
Hell, sometimes I think I ought to just fish instead of try to figure this stuff out. Then I look into my Great Granddaughter's eyes...and I'm doomed to an arse kicking.
I think some day, that the Feeling of Love will remove a lot of blind spots. Can't come too quick. Pisses me off that I can't hit the 'Geaux Tigers" thing any more. Oh well. Earth 2020.
