I'm smart enough to know some military presence in Chicago didn't cause a massive national decline in the murder rate. Do you even have the faintest idea of how numbers work?

The population of the US in 1900 was 76 million. Today it’s 342 million. To be as low as it was in 1900 is a significant drop!

Murder is a good stat for general crime, because you can't cover up a murder very easily and it tracks with general crime
