Are we trying to nation build here and “spread democracy”
Why would we need to nation build in Iran?

99% are Muslim so they want the current regime, that was one of the more ignorant posts.......
And that is the number who would openly say it in a survey, probably closer to 90%.

Surveys indicate that a significant majority of Iranians, roughly 70–80%, desire the removal of the current Islamic Republic regime. This sentiment spans various demographics and has increased following economic struggles and the "Women, Life, Freedom" protests, with polls showing over 80% desiring a change in the ruling system.

Keep hearing about those poor sailors on the Ford being stationed for so long.
Are you kidding me??? If you asked them if they wanted to go home or go to Iran, to a man they would crank up The Clash.

Doesn't change the fact that they dont have the means to overthrow those in power.

The Americans constantly say that they’ve sent a warship toward Iran. Of course, a warship is a dangerous piece of military hardware. However, more dangerous than that warship is the weapon that can send that warship to the bottom of the sea.
Sounds like the words of a soon to be dead man.

The Russian and Chinese warships will probably leave the area as soon as their exercise is over.
Russia can ill afford to lose any Naval assets as it has so few ships already. China won't risk going to war with their largest trading partner at this time either.
IMO they are just there to help delay an attack while the IRGC tries to get things into position. They are also there to save face and to show any of their other "allies" that they are around.

Could have asked the same question about Iraq in January of 2003. But yeah man our interventions in the Middle East always go so well.

The "six carriers in Desert Storm" comparison you will be seeing over the coming days requires added context. In defended targets serviced per day, IADS suppression, and force survivability against modern A2/AD, two CVNs with next-gen air wings deliver substantially more operational effect than six Desert Storm carriers against an equivalent threat.
Those six carriers (five of which were conventional) fielded ~300-350 aircraft (F-14, F/A-18A/C, A-6E, A-7E, EA-6B) dropping predominantly unguided ordnance, flying with analog avionics and no stealth. Today's two CVNs carry ~90-110 4th/5th-gen airframes (F/A-18E/F, F-35C) with AESA, sensor fusion, and all-PGM loadouts, plus EA-18G & E-2D and the non-kinetic capabilities they bring to the modern air wing. The USS Abraham Lincoln carries on her decks CVW-9, aka "The Air Wing of the Future". The most advanced combat aircraft in the Navy, sporting the latest tech, are present within that formation.
Per-sortie lethality has increased by an order of magnitude. A single Super Hornet or F-35C services multiple targets with JDAM/SDB/JSOW in one mission, mirroring effects that required entire 1991 strike packages. Ford's EMALS enables ~25% higher sustained sortie generation than even the Nimitz-class, of which only one was present in Desert Storm.
SEAD/DEAD capabilities are integrated into strike airframes now, and supported by standoff capabilities that simply did not exist in 1991. The list goes on, and the discussion could easily be widened to talk about how the surface combatants present far outstrip the capabilities of the surface combatants present in 1991, even though we brought 2 battleships.
