During US sanctions, Venezuela shifted away from the dollar, selling oil and commodities in currencies like the Chinese Yuan, Russian Ruble, Indian Rupee, and Japanese Yen, using barter, non-Western clearing, and even its own crypto (Petro) to circumvent financial restrictions, especially with China as a key partner

Weird could have sworn I read on here banking in Trinidad handle the money in us dollars.

The confusion around sanctions and the US dollar is specific to energy deals with Venezuela's sanctioned government and state entities

So the oil runner ships we seized are different than the sanctioned oil?
Posted on 1/6/26 at 9:10 pm to Jbird
Not following what you're trying to say.

Was the tankers we seized in violation of sanction?
Posted on 1/6/26 at 9:16 pm to Jbird
If you have a point, please make it.

Why not resupply the strategic oil reserves?
Because it's not about having the oil. It's about selling it in dollars.
Dang it shouldn't be this hard to educate.
BRICS learn about it

I am simply asking a question you seem to be up to speed.
If you don't know or think it's some kinda trap fricking ignore it.

Trolling because I am curious if the seized tankers were sanctioned or not?
If they sold that oil in dollars or not?
Goofy fricker.

No i didn't. Can you read? My post is showing how little this amount is.
50 million barrels sold at market value equals 3 billion dollars.
That can go a long way to improving conditions and the oil infrastructure of Venezuela. Increased oil output for Venezuela equals more money for Venezuela which in turn…..wait for it…..
…..means more money for Venezuelans.

So those seized tankers were sanctioned oil?
Posted on 1/6/26 at 9:34 pm to TX Tiger
Ok let me rephrase this. The sanctioned oil allowed to be sold versus the unsanctioned oil they were trying to run.

I’m reading about sanctioned ships. Can you elaborate further?
Posted on 1/6/26 at 9:39 pm to dkreller
I guess maybe the wording is off.
I took it as the sanctioned oil was the oil authorized for sale.
The other tankers were trying to run oil outside the sanctioned oil allowed to be sold.

I very well may have it fricked up lol.

I honestly didn’t know what you two were bickering about and Googled Venezuelan ship seizures. Seems some ships were trying to be sneaky with GPS spoofing and changing flags and shite after they were already sanctioned for suspected drug smuggling.

not using US dollars for oil is one of the most dangerous things a head of state can do
