This mantra of politicians to appeal to soft westerners that violence is never the answer has obviously failed.

I guess violence is OK when its against your own country's law enforcement.

But against a country that has been promising (and delivering) death to us for 49 years?

"Naah, those guys are peaceful and we should leave them be."
