Problem is, I don't think some on the right would accept less than a total ban.
Yes, but you're talking about making a deal. Obviously, no deal would include EVERYONE agreeing.

I digress. Point is, I'm not sure that deal really would fly with the right.
Again, you'd get FAR more conservative votes for a 1st trimester only restriction than you would liberal votes. And by far more, I mean..........basically, you'd get MAYBE 5% of the liberal votes for it.

So, the thing holding up that deal ain't the right.

Is that a gift from God?

I've been told I have the gift of discernment . . .

Look, you and I disagree. I don't doubt your sincere faith. You doubt mine because I accept abortion as neither forbidden nor condoned by the scriptures. We will both know when Jesus calls us home.

I've been rude and very unChristlike to you in some of my posts. I'm sorry. I get angry at what seems to be a politically driven intolerance draped in Christian language. Perhaps I've judged you unfairly.

I really have a full plate this morning. My hope is that we can agree to disagree on abortion and discuss the rest seriously. Will try that when I get back.

1. Voter ID laws, coupled with suspended voting privileges for anyone on government assistance for untethered abortion.

You think it's the thread or the thread starter getting downvotes?

Until Jake showed there was some good discussion. Still is some. Don't worry about the downvotes. They are meaningless.

Worry about the content and you noted yourself that it was civil and lacking "melt".

In other words, stopping melting in a decent thread, libtard.

what deal would you cut?

Too late. We have "progressed" too far for any deals. Either the left surrenders unconditionally or it's no quarter given and none asked.

Just goes to show how warped your idea of good discussion is. 75% of the first 4 pages(before jake) was "we don't negotiate with terrorist" or some variant of libz suxxorZ!, other than ShortyRob who has a history of making earnest attempts at substantive dialog and has been an advocate of trying to recapture it here.

Anyway, Im just stating the obvious so I'll back off that line of thought now.

As to the OP, I think this forum and a lot of news offers a completely warped view of the politics of the country. Most regular people are not the tinfoil Trumpsuckers like we have here or limp wristed SJW's like you see on youtube. Most people are somewhere in between. I think if we managed to start solely with legislation on only the things we agree on we would find quite a bit of common ground, but neither party is giving up their wedge issues.

For example, I think most people would support harsh penalties for business hiring illegals which would immediately stifle illegal immigration. The majority of the country now agrees with marijuana decriminalization and the remaining 35 some odd percent could be persuaded by something like enhanced border security. Late term abortions is something I think a large majority of people could come to agree on as a bargaining chip. Thats just off the top of my head.

Warped? Nah. That's what I said some and not all or even the majority.

You have to weed through some overgrowth to get to a clearing here. You know that.

You're mistaken. The prior violent rupture of the union resulted from trying to force people with far fewer disagreements than we have today to live together under a common federal government. What I propose is a peaceful alternative to reduce those tensions. Divorce as an alternative to domestic violence if you will.

On the one hand, I am really loathe to make a deal on abortion as I believe it to be murder. On the other it is possible to justify a deal on it with the justification that its mostly future democrats who would be aborted. So I might consider unrestricted abortion rights and full funding of planned parenthood in exchange for a wall. deportation of all illegals, explusion of all muslims and a ban on future muslim immigration. I would have to think about it.

So the bargain would be the liberals take the coasts and the conservatives take the South and the non-coastal West?

Seems to me that would make all of us pretty vulnerable to foreign influence or invasion.

Not sure about that. You might have to push it to four months, but I think you could get a very large group on the left to go with a deal in which they traded away the right to unrestricted abortion.

How about this one: Limit abortion as a trade for regulating guns.

I know we'd have to talk details, but how about conceptually?
