I do have to give our state some credit back in 1986. There practically was no GOP and winning the Democrat Nomination was pretty much the election.
Charlie Graddick won the primary, but the trial lawyers boy was Bill Baxley and much like today and Hillary Clinton they pitched a fit and decided that was not going to fly. So they filed a contest.
With their hand picked judge, they claimed crossover votes put Graddick over the top. People here do not register by party, so how do they determine who voted for whom? A new election? Nope, they used A POLL! They used a poll to overturn the election and declared Baxley the nominee! They said true Democrats would have voted for Baxley LOL.
So, the backroom boys figured they had gotten away with it. All they had to do was sweep aside the placeholder GOP candidate in the General election, Guy Hunt.
But the people had other ideas. They were so incensed by the obvious bullshite the Democrats pulled they elected Hunt. Bill Baxley never became governor of Alabama. And the GOP got a foothold here.

Alabama is thriving right now. So I'll say Kay Ivey. She has multinational companies wanting to invest in the state. And trying to get education back on track.

Louisiana has not seen a real leader as governor in my lifetime, makes since now.

Earl Long called him Della-Soups Morrison.

Huey Long or Edwin Edwards...either one for me.
Neither one of them were worth a plugged nickel. The Long family is still getting wealthy from Huey's thievery.

Mike Foster was lazy, which is why he was actually pretty good. You can't do damage when you don't do anything. He did get the state out from under expensive, politically-connected, leases for state office space; his building programs in the Capitol Complex led directly to the revitalization of downtown BR.
His wunderkind, Bobby Jindal, is one of the worst ever, though.

This is probably the correct answer for Louisiana given his circumstances.
